Absolutely amazing topic. Takes me back to the Bush, Godolphin, Stowe, Cunningham Boscombe Roads and Bloemfontein for school late 60's. Supporting Rs was almost compulsory. My contribution would have been Police and Thieves, Junior Murvin produced by the Great Scratch Perry but I can't do the tecky stuff.

Bit of a novelty act, frankly. They were a bunch of West London based nutters who met working as musicians on the TV show Animal Crackers. Fronted by Tony Sibthorpe. Probably best known for their cover of Apache by the Shadows.

Lord Tanamo - the backing band you can hear playing is primarliy comprised of the musicians that became known as The Skatalites, including Jackie Mittoo, Roland Alphonso and Lloyd Brevett.

The term 'Legend' is over-used but, in this case, completely justified.
Absolutely. He was a huge figure in Jamaican music with the move from Ska to Rocksteady and ultimately the slowing down to slower forms like dub reggae.
Rumour was that Island wanted him to front the push of Jamaican music to a wider audience. Talks broke down and they went for their back up option - Bob Marley.
Really sad news. A ska/reggae great, hero, legend, yes all of those. I really regret not seeing him last year when he and the Maytals visited Dublin. RIP Toots.
