Where do all the great ska musicians come from?
ALPHA BOYS SCHOOL ~ orphans taught by nuns!

Alpha is the foundation
The nuns taught the kids how to act good and respectful
don't be rude, just like Daphne Biggs taught us
yet tearaway Dale boy Kenny Swindles bunked off fighting and bullying

Some great music on this thread.A real treat for the ears.

Agree totally. Ska, so simple, yet effective music and most uplifting in these difficult times. Great tunes presented on this thread.

There aint half been some clever bastards.

Wotta bout rock-steady too?
Derrick Harriott wot a lovely fella
looked after ailing Rico Rodrigues helped him on stage
RR's last public appearance when he was too ill to play his trombone
at the London International Ska Festival 2016

C'mon lets make this a nice long thread to
rival the two-bob Frankie Knuckles absense of tune and melody
meh so-so 90's nonsense.

THE SPECIALS — YOU’RE WONDERING NOW
This week in 1979, THE SPECIALS played the Colchester Institute, a show that was filmed for BBC2’s ROCK GOES TO COLLEGE programme, a TV series that featured the best of contemporary British and American ‘rock’ bands filmed in front of an audience of students, (December 1979)
Broadcast in January 1980, the video here features the band playing the mournful ska of YOU’RE WONDERING NOW, a cover of the Sir Coxsone (Clement Dodd) track recorded in 1964 by ‘Andy & Joey’ in Jamaica and one that brought the Specials’ debut album to a dreamy acapella close.

Just have to post the whole video, such a quality live performance. Wish I was that little suited skinhead on the stage at the end.

Agree that Ali Baba mix is unbelievable, superb stuff 18st👍

Not sure if exactly on topic but like the album Subculture, by Selector, Box Fresh off that.

Hard to beat Toots and the Maytals for me though (until the Ali Baba mix I have to say :))

Edit. Think that's at Hammersmith Palais. In the 70s so maybe some of you there?
