He seems to have forgotten the Pandemic, the global shortages created by the pandemic, rocking prices due to the war on Ukraine. Not a surprise he considers himself an expert.
The pandemic was in 2020, the decrease in investment started in 2016 post Brexit referendum and was one of the things we were warned about. It’s totally understandable given the political paralysis we then suffered for 3 years. The cliff like drop in 2020 is the pandemic effect.

What a surprise someone who has worked for the EU since 1973 with a French mother applying to confirm his French citizenship. That is what democracy is all about. You can claim Irish citizenship if you have any recently born Irish ancestors and then you can move to your Irish paradise and no longer be a burden on the UK taxpayers.
I wonder why Stanley did it now then ? I mean why would he do this in his dotage and being such a britnat patriot and all….?
You did not answer my questions again. Are you applying for Irish citizenship? Are you moving to the Republic to stop being a burden on the UK taxpayers?

He is just safeguarding his gold plated pension.

It’s got nothing to do with his pension as he gets that automatically. When asked by a leading national newspaper why he became a French citizen he gave 2 reasons, the first was sentimentality (French mother) and the second was a symbolic reason in that he wanted to maintain his links with EU countries. He now has a passport to travel freely and reside in the EU - something denied to most British citizens.

You can still travel freely, live and work throughout the European Union. Millions live in, work in and travel to Europe every single year. This isn’t a right that has been denied.

It’s completely different post Brexit. British passports holders without an EU passport or residency can only stay for a maximum of 90 days in every 180, living in the EU is now subject to meeting visa, permit, residency requirements as is the ability to work in the EU. Prior to Brexit, none of the restrictions we now face existed.

Of course it is. Have you missed the whole point of Brexit? Yes, you can travel through Europe but not indefinitely as you used to. As for working in Europe, you now require a work visa. To obtain that visa you have to qualify for one, which generally means only skilled roles and those on shortage lists. Look at the difficulty in recruiting lesser known players from the EU. The right to go to work where you like in Europe has very much been denied. Its the very cornerstone of the Brexit policy.

No, no it hasn't. The big difference is now you have to meet the qualifying criteria. Things have changed as we all knew they must. It was no great surprise unless you were completely ignorant of everything that was said during the referendum campaign.

You are in agreement then? It has changed. Previously, you could go to Europe and apply for any Jon and stay as long as you wanted. Now, as you correctly state, you have to qualify for a Visa. Therefore, it has changed. It's not "No, it hasnt". It has unequivocally changed. You state it yourself.

It has completely changed. Pre Brexit there was no qualifying criteria and anyone could go anywhere to live and work and there were no time limits on how long you could stay, now there are. If you don’t meet the criteria you can’t do it end of sports. There are expats in places like Spain experiencing this at first hand.

I'm increasingly persuaded that the generation above mine actually believes it can turn back time.
Look, Malcolm. You're not going to be 16 again. You've more hair in your nostrils in your head and you can get out the armchair without complaining. Your youth ain't coming back. https://t.co/71dCZ0TRHZ

It hasn't been denied though, people can still travel and work in the EU. The rules are different so yes there are changes but nothing has been denied to anyone. We are still free to travel.

It has fundamentally changed and whereas it was once a given now its a qualified right subject to regulatory requirements being satisfied. There are reports of British expats being required to leave Spain and there is now a limit on the length of time people can stay in the EU. Similar restrictions have been placed on EU nationals coming to the UK, albeit the EU seem to be a lot more organised than we are.

Passports are being stamped to show how long you have been away.

Yes, the rules have changed but people can still do these things, it hasn't been denied them which was what was originally said.
People knew this would happen, or they should have if they paid attention. Constantly moaning about it is pointless anyway, it's not going to change anything now. People need to move on. Maybe when we vote the tories out (which I thinks becomes more inevitable the longer Bojo clings onto his position) we will have a government that negotiates better with the EU. Maybe the U itself will stop being so demanding, they say they want cooperation yet to many that cooperation seems to be do exactly as they want or else.

We will rejoin.
We will never move on until Johnson is in jail for treason, and we are back in the EU. However long it takes.

Well Johnson will never be in jail for treason so tough luck. We won't be re-joining the EU any time soon either, possibly not in your lifetime, again, tough.
Stay rooted firmly in 2016 then, the rest of the world will laugh at people like you, living in the past because you cannot accept the present.
You will probably die as you live right now, stuck in the past and miserable for it. It's only a matter of time.
