Decision days ahead from June 1st onwards 13:27 - May 31 with 23590 viewsKeithHaynes

Matt Grimes, looks likely bids will be received.

Jay Fulton, has he done all he can at Swansea ?

Jamal Lowe, retain or put in the shop window ?

Jan Dhanda, there are a few suitors, let him leave ?

The swans will almost certainly retain
Ryan Bennett, Jake Bidwell, Joel Latibeaudiere, Ben Cabango, Conner Roberts, Korey Smith, Steven Benda, Ben Hamer, George Byers, Jordon Garrick, Morgan Whittaker, Liam Cullen, Ryan Manning. Oli Cooper, Brandon Cooper, Cameron Evans, Daniel Williams. ( Regards Roberts and Cabango, they need another Championship season for me )

Decisions to be made on Rushesha, Freeman, John, Webb, Gould, Mckay, Routledge

Possible inclusion for 2021/22 season ?
Al Hamadi, Govea.

Loan players, consider them all gone.
Out of contract Ayew, consider him gone.

Any thoughts ? I’ll pin this thread and amend etc, for the immediate future

Potter's team was far from the finished item but I can't recall all that many games ending without us having a shot on target. His side was making steps toward playing a decent passing game though.

He didn’t have Margetson as GK and defensive coach. That would have been a good combination

I am amazed that you would use just the minutes played.
It has to be combined with miles or Kms covered and effort put in as well.
Hourihane plays 70 minutes, how can you compare the effort he puts in to any other player in the team's 70 minutes (apart form Woodman)?

Unfair to bring Hourihane into the equation, he could play 90 minute a match 365 days a year and not be fatigued.

Very good point, I wonder how Hourihanes stats compare to Connor Roberts? I bet Roberts lapped him so many times Hourihane would be dizzy!

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

That is the whole point, just using the minutes played is in no way a fair comparison on the Physical and Mental Stress experienced by a player.
You also have to take in to consideration their maturity and how well they handle the expectations that a club and it's fans put on them.
Confidence lost takes a lot of rebuilding.

It is a case we should erase Hourihane from our memory banks

Who chose Hourahaine and what were the criteria for his selection?. The midfield trio of Grimes Smith and Fulton are artisans. Dhanda is a little more creative but his statistics are not great.

Hourahaine was supposed to be the free kick specialist and creative influence to drive on thr club. Whos selection was he and has the club learned anything from this mistake. ? The Guylfi Sigurdson 10 years on. Like Borja he did not look like the answer from day one.

Artisans 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Bog standard lower division journeymen.

Everyone, and that is EVERYONE, was bowled over by getting Hourihane. Others have got a fine tune out of him. We couldn’t. The question to be asked is why not, and why long before the end he wasn’t even bothered…and was still always on the pitch.

Hardly bowled over. I wonder why Villa aren't getting a tune out of him. He's not even in their thoughts. And you'd think with better players around him he'd be able to play a tune.
Bookmark this if you like, but Hourihane is only going one way from now on - down the leagues.

Villa got a fine tune out of him in the championship as you well know.

By all means point me at your doubts and reaction at the time he signed, as all the responses I saw were very positive indeed.

Why would I want to bookmark your view? I couldn’t really care less what happens to him now, but if what you say is true why on earth did Cooper keep leaving him on the pitch? Over and over and over again, without dropping or substituting him even if the loan said he had to play a part.

Villa may well have got a tune out of him in the championship three season ago. Not sure the same could be said recently - otherwise he wouldn't be coming on loan to us.

I don't believe I posted anything when he came to us. I thought he might bring a bit of PL class but I certainly wasn't bowled over. I'm not one for fawning over signings - I tend to reserve judgement until I see what they do on the field. He showed the odd glimpse for a while but I was never entirely convinced - his passing was poor and his level of effort was poor. His set pieces were excellent though - but then, he only had to be better than Grimes.

My point is: he's been going downhill for a couple of years now, otherwise he'd be pushing for a place at Villa. Doubtless he had a guarantee of playing time from Cooper. I honestly think he kept him on the pitch for his set pieces alone because he did very little else. Coming from a PL club you might have expected him to control games in the championship but he did none of that.

The fact that he was in the doldrums at Villa and couldn’t be arsed to reclaim his reputation here says it all. Lazy bum of a player.

Wish I didnt get all excited about him when he came but in our defence,we saw him as the X factor when in fact he was a S house.

Wouldn't be bothered if Cooper went, though it needs to be sorted soon - But Margetson would be a massive loss (local lad so hopefully happy)

They won’t let cooper leave because of the loss of income. They may say to him you are free to discuss with any club your immediate future and give him a deadline, but they won’t turn down the compensation in Coopers contract and then pay him off a year as well. Not a chance.

He may well go, but he has a big heart for the club, either way I’m happy.

I do not agree with you there Guv.

Agree Martyn Margotson has been a massive asset to us.
He played a big part in organising an outstanding solid defence in the first two thirds of the season. What happened to us towards the end is a mystery. Absence of Bennett may have been a factor and when he did play I felt he wasn't quite himself.
We need to do everything to try and keep Margotson if SC were to go. However as is the trend these days he is likely to follow SC wherever he may go.

Re the OP:

Grimes is top of the list for a reason.

Grimes is our heartbeat, quarterback and playmaker. He not only recycles the ball better than most he plays the exquisite longer ball, links up beautifully in the Red zone with sublime finishing, and is our consistent creative presence in midfield.

We need to push Grimes further upfield. Give him a Busquets-type to feed off and an Iniesta to link with further forward.

Cooper sees his potential. They have both earned the right to choose to take us to the next level, or choose the EPL now.

Two goals in 45 leagues appearances. Swansea cannot have four player in midfield with simialr dismal scoring records. Smith is the worst.

Agree but Grimes would be the one we don't want to lose.

We should be building a team around him I reckon.

Apart from the loony tackle I thought Grimes was our best player at Wembley. Ok, that’s damning with very faint praise, but I do think there’s a player there that has much more in his game than he’s allowed to show in the dog straightjacket system imposed by the fraud.

In my opinion, we should be trying to get a proper two-footed midfielder who can actually control a game. It was so refreshing to see Romania's first time passing against Engerland on ... whenever. None of this take a touch or two to control it, manoeuvre the ball onto the only foot I have and then give a percentage pass to ... normally the left back. I think we need a change.
