Then again, teams like Watford almost certainly wouldn't be splashing out £10+M on a defender and his chances of moving back into the Premier League would've been severely curtailed and our chances of a decent windfall likewise

A nice tidy sum to assist the prudent running of the club and it's continuing survival. Excellent news, but the wrong approach. Let's spend all that, plus a load more that we haven't got to get into the Championship. The town will go WOW WOW WOW REVOLUTION and flock to the COA to the point where we'll need a brand new 20,000 seater stadium. As a business model, it can't fai..... Ah. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

This is the time for the club to make the next step, talk of training facilities or stadium renovation seem to be the modern day norm nowadays, to allow the club to generate more income. How much would a training ground cost for a league one team? Or a paint job and improve facilities in the stadium? My guess it would probably be more than we have in the bank, there was rumours swirling around about the council looking to help us with a training ground. I don’t believe it’ll go into the squad side necessarily because we don’t spend fees on players and we’re not going to start anytime soon. Under Dunphy the aim was to get the stadium back under our ownership and gets us promoted, we seem to have stalled since then seeing were this goes will be interesting

The 'new' training facilities/pitches seem to have been an on-going saga as long as I can personally remember. It's a tad worrying that the extra we make on transfers is probably just keeping us buoyant in L1. Extras made on the more lucrative and better supported clubs filling up Spotty (imo) is offset against the fact that all other clubs have those same opportunities and possibly creating more revenue; OK, sometimes geography gives us an advantage here. It'll be of huge interest to see the accounts for this last season to see where money went. My guess is we are not as flushed as we might otherwise have been (hardly rocket science, I know) but really worry about where new funds will come from in the future. With respect to your points...I think the squad will yet again have to come first.

The reported add on fee for Dawson wouldn't buy car parks at a training facility. Ive often wondered how much it would cost to buy into Carrington or part of? all just a pipe dream. Does anybody know how much Bury were paying to train there.

The plans for the Edgar Wood Academy at Bowlee still show the pitches that the Rochdale afc Academy will use. The DFE gave the go ahead for 2 new schools in Rochdale , one in Littleborough and one at Bowlee about a month ago . I think the 6th form College will run the multi academy trust that Edgar Wood will be part of. I guess the school will be built over the next couple of years as the demand for school places is rising quickly.

Painting the stadium is nothing in comparrison to what a training ground would cost. Infact it would be a small pertcentage to paint the ground..... What dale need to do is a financial plan spread over 10yrs to get a 4g training setup and grass pitch and bring it into the community and etc and earn some monies from the hire..... Prime example is the about 10yrs ago when i used to run an under 16s team on a thursday evening we would train on grass for 30mins and then pay £25 for a 1/3 of the astroturf pitch.. 3 teams training per hr is £75 .. That is £300 per evening 6pm/10pm Muliply that over 5 nights is £1500..... Based on 50wks usage that is £75k minimum annual income Add to that 4g 5 aside pitches they can hire at night and over the weekends infact the football in the community could use them aswell.. So it can be done...... [Post edited 30 Jun 2019 9:47]

All well and good but I don’t think we have a pot to p155 in right now. We rely heavily on a cup run / player sales / sell ons every season. Rafferty and Cannon would have helped in Jan, but the pot runs dry very quickly. We need that money to keep ticking over and to meet all the compliance from all the various bodies that we have to put in place. Only once we do that, and pay our bills, we can think about fancy training grounds. Pity our neighbours down the road didn’t think of things in such logic.

I think that some fans myself included just want to hear a plan as said before. What’s wrong with having goals? We have stalled or plateaued in recent years. We own the ground but it looks like it hasn’t been cared for since the 90s, random coloured sinks, toilets which Bear Grylls could build better in the Amazon, the five a side pitch has gone quite, a pitch that can actually last a season. There are areas that need investment to stay alive as a modern day club, for years this club was behind the trend with money coming in that must be nearly £2mill (granted not all at once) over the last year, surely we should see some sort of return??

Hey Dale 92 be careful,we have had the doors to the toilets in the Sandy painted a few months back and a new "Gents" sign to replace the scrawny highligher writing.......still smells like Grimsby though.

Craig Dawson on 18:39 - Jun 30 with 3727 views | blackdogblue | Dale took a reduced % on the deal with Craig, this is a fact. The sell on clause had reduced interest in him progressing back to the prem, one of the reasons he changed agents. Better to have a % of something rather than 100% of nothing.
