I was in the TDS against Darlo and the Sandy Lane last night. In my youth of 2008 I was more concerned with charging on the pitch and rushing towards our players rather than genuinely celebrating with my friends. So last night was better for me as it was just pure chaos - packed into the Sandy, jumping over random people and hugging strangers, just brilliant.

Muirhead for me. Felt and turned out to be a turning point for the club. Under Hilly, we were stepping into the unknown then by achieving success. Since then we've almost learned to expect such successes now.

Remember a terrific celebration when we went 2-1 up against Brighton in 1964/65 season. It was a fiery affair known as the battle of Spotland. Bert Lister and Norman Gall of Brighton sent off for fighting. A fabulous game finished 2-2
.Spotland Roar on form that night when both teams were pushing for promotion

Easily sunday, the nature of it, game looked like it’d gone after such a great performance, then davies rolls off the physio table to slot one in back stick.. i’ve never celebrated a goal like that before, literally hugging strangers
Leader of the little gang of immature cretins.

As I recall the two battlers ended up over the little boundary wall and in amongst the fans ! I thought they were going outside for fish and chips at that chippy just over the outside wall.
Big Reg was being marked by a young Welsh player called Barry Rees that Brighton had just signed from Everton. He had a blinder and managed to keep Reg and our left winger quiet, marking them both. Brighton's right back had gone off injured in the first half. No subs then. A few months later the poor lad was killed in a car crash ! He was outstanding that night.
The celebrations after the 3-0 win against Southend was something special. The first time the club had actually won something. I was in the Sandy right behind the goals and I'll admit to running on and giving Big Reg a slap on the back. It hurt my hand.

Your correct Ming, they went over the wall on the old wilbutts side. Earlier there was an incredible incident when Thompson headed wide and the ref gave Dale a goal, after Brighton protestations he gave us a penalty, from which we scored.Thats when the battles started, our crowd were at fever point in the second half when Morton put us ahead. Sadly Brighton equalised late on. One of the best games I have ever seen at Spotland

Yeah you're right. Your post brought all those memories flooding back. I was in the Sandy Lane end and the goal/penalty incident was down at the Church Inn end. There was a massive furore down there when the ref gave that pen. I was too far away to see exactly what happened. Somebody told me the ball went into the goals through a hole in the net.
I remember Gall and Lister climbing back over the wall to get back on the pitch and I think they walked all the way around the pitch in front of the Sandy after being sent off. No red cards then so we were all wondering what was happening.
As you say a great match that I still have vivid memories of after 50 odd years. George Morton played well that night.

Was the whole thing about Sunday's goal people thinking it's been a great experience we have scored against one of the best teams in the country. Our keeper went the right way for the penalty, we haven't embarrassed ourselves......Hang on there's an attack on here.....Davies bangs it in and
'Only happy when you've got it often makes you miss the journey'
One going back a bit now, but Steve O'Shaughnessy bullet Free-Kick through the wall against Northampton in the FA Cup 4th Rd?, 1990. 1st goal of 3. That was the year we went on to Crystal Palace and Keith Welch played a blinder.
9,000+ packed in and a lot more allowed in the Sandy in them days.
Also, remember another crazy very late goal that sent the Sandy crazy. Shaun Reid's Golden Goal against Blackpool and in those days that were it - gameover! Again FA Cup - just drawn at their place, Whitehall scored a beauty and seem to think Kevin Rose had a great game.

It was pretty manic that time we beat MK Dons after being behind until ten minutes from the end. There was also a bit of a party when TK put a last minute freekick into the Chesterfield goal.

Reid’s goal was a last minute winner. Golden goal wasn’t around in 1992.

And the last minute of extra-time at that.
5 minutes in:
Sorry about that and ta for the correction - just shows when you're really enjoying yourself, how time, (and memory)!!, fade into irrelevance.
Biggest part for me was the fact that Reid, the ball and any other player around WOULD end up in the back of the net, regardless, AND DID! Celebrations were wild, got lifted up by a total stranger, and a bit like Hilly the other night - all you seem to hear is YEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSS!
Beating Blackpool back then, I thought, was a big deal. It shows just how far things have progressed, in what 25 years, so long may it continue.

Perhaps strangely, I think I went more nuts for Perkins' equaliser v Darlo, than for Muirhead's penalty. I just remember jumping and hugging, for a very long time!
