This is very simple: if Fernandes signs Defoe for anything like the wages being touted around he loses the last bit of patience I have with him as a chairman.

The thing is we keep making the same mistake over and over again. Yes its OK to sign an older player, but looking to sign an older player for which one of the two key attributes is Pace, is mental.
If a key attribute is pace or stamina then leave well alone after the age of 30 (Rio Ferdinand, Ji Sung Park, Michael Owen etc, if they never had pace or great stamina Richard Dunne, Ryan Nelson, Teddy Sheringham etc it will probably be fine |  | | |

Ok, I haven't read the whole thread, but maybe Redknapp/Beard has come up with the idea of getting Defoe. They want to know the response of what we would think, so put the story to a Standard journo, who prints as fact. They then gauge the response by the message boards and act accordingly. By now Rednapp has already has his response for his next press conference, when a well placed journo asks him about Defoe.
