VPN advice
at 18:45 22 Jun 2024

Off abroad before end of the Euros and like to watch with English comms, plus get cricket on Sky. Anyone got any advice on the most likely one to work around the Beeb and Sky abroad? I've tried a couple in the past, but they were quite hit and miss...
Cheers

England QPR XI
at 20:28 17 Jun 2024

Wondering whether you can get a decent England XI of QPR players. Rule is they must’ve got England caps while playing for us.

So far…

Seaman
Bardsley Parker Fenwick
Thomas Francis (c) Venables (i think?) Sinton
Ferdinand Bowles

Missing a left back. Any ideas? Sansom not eligible.

Textor - Palace
at 20:42 24 May 2024

Apparently Textor is getting out of Palace and is looking at investing in either Everton or a Championship club.

Given Richard Reilly is on the board, I wonder if he's looking at us.

Most Important Goal of the Season
at 18:19 27 Apr 2024

Got to say I'm surprised Dozzell came second in GOTS - great goal, but I couldn't bring myself to vote for him. I think Dunne's must have got about 95% of the vote, surely.

BUT, different award. What was the most *important* goal of the season? I think there's a few candidates:

1. Dykes v Stoke. 2-1 down, Stoke with 10 men, atmosphere flat. Out of nowhere Dykes chests and volleys in and brings us back from the brink.

2. Goblin boy og v Stoke. It's now 2-2 and the crowd is remiscent of the famous 3-2 v Liverpool. Larkeche, in his biggest contribution of the season, chases a ball down like a man possessed and forces the winner. Willock the cherry on top soon after, which signalled the start of his own renaissance.

3. Paal v Huddersfield. 1-0 down. A deeply depressing game and a horrible performance. Paal, I think at the time our top scorer, knees one in and rescues a point. Felt like not much at the time but a few said how important it might be. Looking at the table today, it was absolutely crucial.

4. Field v WBA. 2-1 down despite absolutely destroying WBA for the entire match. Penalty missed, shots cleared off the line by bodies and fists. Had we lost that, what effect might it have had? Playing really as well as we can (at least until last night) and still losing. But Fieldy forced a vital and richly deserved equaliser.

5. Dunne v Birmingham. Probably it's a double for Dunney. Not quite a must win game, certainly a mustn't lose, but this goal of the season was huge for more than one reason. Scary to look at the table without this goal.

6. Dykes v Preston. Our forwards hadn't scored for weeks. We'd picked the wrong time to lose a bit of form. We'd just lost 3-0. Someone had to step up, and Dykes did it, with an assist from Woodman. A big, big goal in a game we had to win.

I guess Dunne will win this, but how about your top 3?

Saturday - forget the negativity, let's just turn up and roar
at 13:37 14 Apr 2024

We know all the issues, we know the problems, we know what is and isn't working.

All of that, though, is irrelevant. It's a great KO time. Get together early. Have one or two drinks. Then get to the ground and we as fans need to put everything into it. We can create that atmosphere and transfer it to the players and help them put everything on the line.

There's a lot of stuff about the fragility and so on about this team, but, one or two games apart, they have been pretty mid-table decent for the last 4 months or so. They're decent lads. We can do this, but we need to do it together. Bloke behind me who moans throughout the whole game, put it away for one b'stard match. Let's blow Preston away with our noise. Let's push them on, like in the WBA game, and we can do this and put this bloody season to bed. No recriminations, no arguments. JUST NOISE.

Goals - Hitting Targets
at 09:54 11 Apr 2024

I was thinking the other day, purely in terms of goals, who has hit their 'mark' this season?

Paal, with 4 from left back, is a slight over-achiever.
Cook, with a couple, given his general record in scoring, is not bad.
Fieldy is over-achieving compared with his historic stats, but under-achieving when you think a number 8 should be getting 5 or 6.

Obviously, all our forwards are under-achieving, as are all our midfielders, and really our defenders too except the above. Jimmy Dunne, big improvements aside, should be looking for 3 or 4 a season.

Rowlands, Di Carmine, Dunne

What do they have in common?

All scored unexpected barnstormers at the Loft End to get us 3 much-needed points v Birmingham: for two of them, it was probably the greatest goal of their career.

Anyone else present for all three?
