Game of Thrones is class, best thing on TV at the moment.
The best outright shows are/have been Sopranos, The Wire, Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones and Boardwalk Empire but there are loads of series I think are brilliant but that is more down to personal preference.
A small cold country in the north is so full of uncivilised elements that a big wall has had to be built to keep them out...is it my imagination or is there a certain anti-Scottish element in GoF?
Not so much anti-Scottish, but Westeros is roughly based on medieval Britain. Hence why in the TV show most of those from the North have Yorkshire accents, etc..
I'm working my way through Breaking Bad at the moment. Very good but not even close to The Wire which stands alone for me. Haven't seen GOT and never got into Sopranos - I've never liked the mob type stuff.
True Detective is one I would highly recommend. Superb.
True Detective is the best new series I've seen since Breaking Bad started. Verging on classic if the final two episodes hold up.
Can't see GOT being my sort of thing seeing as I can't stand The Lord of the Rings, but will give it a go at some point.
Wire, Sopranos, Breaking Bad and Oz are the top for me.
For sex and mindless violence Banshee takes a lot of beating!!! After watching the first 10 mins of episode 1 - I was hooked!!! The Following is quite good as well some great one lines as well.
I've seen the whole series of True Detective. I think it is right up there with the very best ever. The writing, acting, mood, characterisation - it's really stunning. And for me it ended perfectly.
A mighty dragon swoops down and picks up Woody Harrelson then drops him in a swamp where he has to fight the Yellow King - they get to choose weapons, for Woody it's the battleaxe - and they also choose support beasts from a naked leprechaun and a winged tiger. Woody wins but is then betrayed by Mcconaughey who pours poison in his ear whilst sleeping off too much red wine and grapes.

This sounds like it should be on the Game of Fantasy Football Hooligans thread.
I did more or less the same, I was getting bored with it them someone bought me 'The Path of Daggers' as a present and I I just lost all interest. Shame as books 1-5 were brilliant.
Steven Erikson 'Malazan Books of the fallen' are the only really big series I've enjoyed until the end and GofT (if it ever ends)
Sven Hassel doesn't really count
Yes I am currently on book 7 of the Steven Ericsson series, if you liked these and GOF books you will probably like the R. SCOTT Bakker Prince of Nothing series too....
True Detective was very good. Didn't rate the final episode though.
GoT is back next week I think and needs to up its game. s3 was pretty rubbish in terms of pace and general quality. Also that dragon chick needs to get good or f**k off.
Stefan Moore, Stefan Moore running down the wing. Stefan Moore, Stefan Moore running down the wing. He runs like a cheetah, his crosses couldn't be sweeter. Stefan Moore. Stefan Moore. Stefan Moore.

Agree. S3 was pretty weak apart from the last 2 episodes. The book they should be basing S4 on is pretty good so I have high hopes.
*spoiler alert* the dragon woman stays crap throughout the books.

Have to agree.
True Detective just seemed to sort of...end.
GoT is still on a high level, but not quite on the level of s1.
Sopranos is amazing, Breaking bad ok ut not even close and i love Game of thrones...it's not exactly quality but it's pure trashy entertainment and it knows it.
