Walking Dead is good but it could condense down the episodes and remove half of the waffle.

Sopranos is the undisputed greatest tv series of all time.

Been meaning to give Game of Thrones a go but a bit concerned that it might be too 'sci-fi' for me...

Walking Dead the first few episodes were great, it dipped in quality in the second season and I stopped watching.

I stuck through the second and it started picking up but I agree it was far too slow. Heard a few mixed reviews about season 3 but will still watch it all through.

Game of thrones is OK. im reading the books (which are better) but the acting in the telle program is pretty gash tbh

The WIRE is far superior but is totally different so unfair to compare them.. I mean youve got tense scenes with blokes sitting in rooms with head phones on versus some bint in a fantasy bikini with fire breathing pigmy dragons on her shoulders.. fairly different types of entertainment

Ive also started watching the Vikings which is quite good btw

After the perhaps fourth or fifth episode of the little girl being *still* missing I lost the impetus to watch any more.

Season 3 is very good, David Morrissey is fantastic as the Governor. However, it's not as good as GoT. For a start there's no T!T, something that GoT delivers regularly.

Same here, I'm waiting for Channel 5 to stick it up on their regular monday slot. It's perfect after 5-a-side.

I tried The Walking Dead and couldn't get on with it at all. The first three episodes were so bad. I didn't buy into the situations at all. Also, it seemed to be following the whole zombie film template of 'people get settled somewhere, rednecks ruin it all.'

I've been told to get back onto it though but I am concerned at all this talk of it being slow.

I wouldn't say its "slow" per sé - from what I watched it starts story threads and leaves them hanging across multiple episodes, so something that was crucially important 1 moment, becomes secondary and forgotten the next. That and the series seemingly setting up rules for you to suspend your disbelief to - then disregarding them, or making the characters do ridiculous things (not to the extent that that programme "The Event" did ...yet)

To be fair, GoT is terrible for that. We've not seen the knight woman or the torture bloke for two episodes now.

Season 2 was slow. As you said the amount of time spent on looking for the little girl was poor. Thats what was nice about The Wire or GoT, a lot of story was packed into each episode (the opposite of Lost and similar crap). The Walking Dead needs to get back to 7 episodes a season and compacting the story.

I don't know where you lot get the time to watch all this stuff. I've only just caught up with series (not "season" FFS) 3 of The Rockford Files.

As I've always had a rule never to read a book with gold or silver foil on the cover, I wasn't interested in Game of Thrones when it came out. It sounds like I'd have no chance of catching up now. I'd heard that it rivalled Spartacus for gratuitous T&A, but the one time I flicked over to it I saw two men in bed together so I didn't hurry back.

I was given the first 3 series of Breaking Bad in a box set for Christmas and I've just got on to season 4. From what I've been reading it sounds like there's no need to keep going. Shame, it's been terrific so far.

I have to put my usual word in for the totally under-rated "The Shield" and urge you to get into "Parks and Recreation"

Dullest, most over-rated show ever? "Mad Men" by miles. So dull and sombre it depresses the hell out of me.

Like a few, nearly got put of by game of thrones as a bit to sci fi for me...but stuck to it...liked all the naked scenes and in the end...actually quite like the program now.Again Liked Wire, Sopranos newsroom and a few others..but a bit of a quirky one i have just been watching is Life..with Sarah Shahi and Damian Lewis(he of Homeland..another good one)...It's quiet light hearted and she is fit .

Back to the wire though..1 was great 2 and the dock area bit..bit iffy 3 got back on track 4 was really good and 5 they rushed.

Beauty is in the of the beholder and so everyone is right.
George R R Martin said that GOT was Ivanhoe with magic and that is how it seems to me. I have read the books and enjoyed them but GOT is a good yarn and does not attempt the depth of The Wire in showing the cycles of crime and social deprivation.
Each of the series of the Wire showed the differing pressures and causes of the problems of inner city life from a distinct perspective. From the obsession of the Police in falsifying crime figures to the failures of politicians to care about anything but their own grip on power the Wire achieved the most profound commentary of the state of Democracy I have seen.
I agree there were no naked body parts but a lot more was revealed.

A small cold country in the north is so full of uncivilised elements that a big wall has had to be built to keep them out...is it my imagination or is there a certain anti-Scottish element in GoF?

Considering what is north of the wall in GoT i'm not surprised they want a massive wall to keep 'em out.

The events in the last episode are based on Scottish historical events.

Not the Wall, the more important event.

Breaking Bad is great. Looking forward to the final episodes.

Sopranos is the best for me. Brilliant mix of drama, action and comedy. The episode 'Pine Barrens' is a good example.

Did anyone watch Oz? Very grim prison drama.

As for comedy, Curb your Enthusiasm is pretty, pretty good.
