The election results thread 19:10 - Jun 8 with 58718 views | exiledclaseboy | Polls close 10pm. BBC, ITV and SKY release the results of their joint exit poll also at 10pm. Some of you may remember election night two years ago when the exit poll predicted a Tory win. It was roundly ridiculed by politicians of all parties and most us on here. You could see Professor John Curtice (who oversees the poll) visibly wilting and wondering if he'd just wrecked his career and reputation. The same Prof Curtice got progressively more smug as the night rolled on and it turned out his poll was more or less spot on. First result due about 11pm. From Sunderland. The outcome may be a foregone conclusion but it should be exciting for about an hour or so. Get it stickied for 24 hours or so please, mods. Oh, and can someone keep Perch and Bluey away from sharp objects please. Just in case.

Yeah, about that 250k bribe which wasn't accepted because they decided not to run there anyway and she can't remember who made the offer either....

She's already said she'd back a Labour led government on a vote by vote basis.

If Rudd loses her seat, maybe Davidson can be persuaded to enter parliament in a safe seat. The Scottish campaign also seemed to have resonated better with the public - keeping the union, rejecting the Neverendum etc.

I don't see how she's got credibility after the whole bribe that wasn't or maybe it was debacle. If the Tories had offered them money to stand aside, you can bet a report to the police would have been made and her memory remained intact.

Init. Best possible result for those of us who want to avoid Brexit. I can't believe the SNP have lost 22 seats though... that would be incredible.

This could so turn into payback for so many depressing long election nights. Please be true, please be true, please be true. Delay in Sunderland due to massive turnout. This could be on.

Typical Tory. No result yet announced and they're already ditching Mrs Strong and Stable.

Maybe not incredible, Lisa. Neverendum fatigue. Experience of SNP in government up there. Could be a number of factors. I'd be surprised if they lost that many but not surprised if they lost some. The BBC analysis of the Sunderland constituency figures a few minutes doesn't make a great deal of sense. UKIP was 22% last election, Tories 18%. 62% leave in Brexit ref. It just doesn't seem credible to me that should the UKIP vote collapse as expected that those voters would back Labour. That just seems odd; you'd expect Kippers to be more likely to back the Tories.

Well we will soon find out. Who knows. But if this is remotely correct, then it shows that the support for Brexit has collapsed.

The reality is that EU membership either way is way down the list of people's priorities when voting in GE. Which just 're emphasizes the stupidity of the referendum in the first place.

I'd say the result isn't the issue. The lacklustre campaign is. Before the exit poll I'd have said that she'd be gone after Brexit. If that exit poll holds up or is worse, she could be gone a lot sooner than that.

If she loses she can fall back on her offshore tax haven work.

Isn't the issue as in isn't the issue for May to go. If the exit poll holds, it accelerates her going. She would not be leader for next GE irrespective of this election result.
