The election results thread 19:10 - Jun 8 with 58835 views | exiledclaseboy | Polls close 10pm. BBC, ITV and SKY release the results of their joint exit poll also at 10pm. Some of you may remember election night two years ago when the exit poll predicted a Tory win. It was roundly ridiculed by politicians of all parties and most us on here. You could see Professor John Curtice (who oversees the poll) visibly wilting and wondering if he'd just wrecked his career and reputation. The same Prof Curtice got progressively more smug as the night rolled on and it turned out his poll was more or less spot on. First result due about 11pm. From Sunderland. The outcome may be a foregone conclusion but it should be exciting for about an hour or so. Get it stickied for 24 hours or so please, mods. Oh, and can someone keep Perch and Bluey away from sharp objects please. Just in case.

The election results thread on 22:51 - Jun 8 by monmouth | This could so turn into payback for so many depressing long election nights. Please be true, please be true, please be true. Delay in Sunderland due to massive turnout. This could be on. |
Turnout lower generally speaking Good start then!! Edit - or maybe not then :-( [Post edited 8 Jun 2017 23:03]

2% swing when exit poll predicted 7% in a safe seat. What is up with Curtice's hair? It's like half his head has had an electric shock.

Do you mean UK wide? Is that true? I would think turnout was up?

The election results thread on 23:01 - Jun 8 by blueytheblue | Isn't the issue as in isn't the issue for May to go. If the exit poll holds, it accelerates her going. She would not be leader for next GE irrespective of this election result. |
The Tories have no mechanism for replacing a sitting prime minister as leader of the party, party rules don't allow it. If she's PM and doesn't resign, they're stuck with her.

Like I said, it'll be a long night. I don't expect SNP to lose as many as exit poll predicts for example.

Dimbleby said initially turnout was up in Sunderland on last time, but then corrected himself and said it wasn't generally speaking.

I'm sure they'll devise a mechanism. That or arrange an accident...
