The election results thread 19:10 - Jun 8 with 58836 viewsexiledclaseboy

Polls close 10pm. BBC, ITV and SKY release the results of their joint exit poll also at 10pm. Some of you may remember election night two years ago when the exit poll predicted a Tory win. It was roundly ridiculed by politicians of all parties and most us on here. You could see Professor John Curtice (who oversees the poll) visibly wilting and wondering if he'd just wrecked his career and reputation. The same Prof Curtice got progressively more smug as the night rolled on and it turned out his poll was more or less spot on.

First result due about 11pm. From Sunderland.

The outcome may be a foregone conclusion but it should be exciting for about an hour or so.

Get it stickied for 24 hours or so please, mods.

Oh, and can someone keep Perch and Bluey away from sharp objects please. Just in case.

In all seriousness, what the absolute hell is she on about?

That was the interview of a woman who didn't expect that exit poll result or to be interviewed on the BBC.

One gain for Labour. Also rumored to have gained Kensington.

If that's true they've overturned an 8000 Tory majority.

It makes no sense -tactical voting against Tories, fine. Tactical voting for Tories? Is there a scenario that makes sense?

Votes for all the others seem very low across the board at the moment.

Could be kippers all voting Tory in a Labour seat. Green and LibDems voting Labour in a story seat.

Not helped by Ken Clarke following her.

I'm not a strong supporter of any party or particularly knowledgeable about politics, but to me, he's been the most impressive politician to be interviewed by the Beeb so far tonight.

You know, Hobbes, some days even my lucky rocket ship underpants don't help.

I think the firm conclusion is that the British public hasn't really got a clue what it wants.

I think to be fair that if you can't gloat in the face of a conservative party with a 20 point lead in the polls which has shrivelled to f*ck all when the f*ck can you!

Fair play to Sunderland. They're bloody good at counting quickly. David Moyes not managing things there obviously.

The UKIP vote seems to be splitting evenly between Labour and the Tories. That's just odd.

In some seats, yeah. There's no rationale reason I can think of that UKIPpers would vote for Labour. It makes zero sense.
