Mark Hilditch interview 22:15 - Nov 10 with 3429 viewskel

Anyone know who “Billy Welling” is?

Another totally embarrassing bit of ‘research’

I thought that too. To get one of his two names wrong is poor. To get both wrong is idiotic.

A fan of such longevity would know about Barry Wellings, surely?

Poll: Who do you think bury should appoint as their next manager?

Especially as he was a youth player at Everton!

I can't believe he didn't ask him about his nickname? Surely he knows what it was. Probably the most famous nickname of any Dale player in my lifetime.

As I recall his heading ability was, shall I put it, less than legendary…

Actually, if you squint, the badge design behind him looks a bit like a spoon coming out of a football shirt

I was too young to ever see him play but I was very good friends with his son growing up and spent a lot of time with Mark, even attending his daughters wedding in New York.

A very nice man, I genuinely don't have a bad word to say about him (apart from maybe his allegiances to Oldham) - always talked fondly of his time at Dale and has had a successful career after football!

Wish I'd chosen a different username...

I saw him very briefly when I started watching but one Christmas as a paper boy I knocked on a door in Hamer for a tip and he answered. He was an absolute gentleman with me and although I was a bit starstruck he took time to chat about Dale with me. Lovely fella.
