I can't believe he didn't ask him about his nickname? Surely he knows what it was. Probably the most famous nickname of any Dale player in my lifetime.

I was too young to ever see him play but I was very good friends with his son growing up and spent a lot of time with Mark, even attending his daughters wedding in New York.
A very nice man, I genuinely don't have a bad word to say about him (apart from maybe his allegiances to Oldham) - always talked fondly of his time at Dale and has had a successful career after football!

I saw him very briefly when I started watching but one Christmas as a paper boy I knocked on a door in Hamer for a tip and he answered. He was an absolute gentleman with me and although I was a bit starstruck he took time to chat about Dale with me. Lovely fella.
