I don't understand Scotland.
The percentages don't seem to add up. The majority seems to be anti-English, another large lump of people seems to be part of the group which wants to wave Union Jacks at football matches, the Union flag representing a union with er England. Nobody votes for the 'Conservative and Unionist' party, and 40% want independence.

I've been to dozens of Scotland internationals ( including 2 against England) and although there are plenty anti English songs they are definitely more on a piss take basis than anything else. On some trips I've met up with groups where they have English friends with them (born and living in England) everyone of them gets caught up in the good spirited banter and told me they love it. At Wembley and Trafalgar Square last year I spoke to families and individuals who said they loved the whole experience of the Scotland fans, no racism or hooliganism just friendly banter. In fact a bunch of English lads were flying a St George cross on the pavement above the Square and we're made to put it away by the cops which was met by groups of Scotland fans asking them to let the English lads fly their flag as, again, it was just a bit of banter between the groups.
I'm not stupid enough to think there is no racism and if you knew me and my accent then I can tell you I have been target of some but tbh it's never been as bad as some things said on this board about the Scots and obviously that is from a vocal minority so I'm sure you can appreciate that is what Scotland's general attitude to the English is too.
I did laugh when someone mentioned an outpouring of nationalism when wwe're singing Flower of Scotland to a gold medal at commonwealth games, can't see that happening too often unfortunately!! |  |
