Saints Linked With Sunderland Winger
Thursday, 8th May 2014 12:55

Saints are reportably looking to sign Sunderland's Italian wide man Emanuele Giaccherini before the World Cup.

If rumours from the North East have any substance Saints will offer Sunderland £5 million for Italian International Emanuele Giaccherini.

Giaccherini joined the Black Cats for £6.5 million from Juventus last summer, Saints fans will remember him from Sunderland's visit earlier in the season when he scored their goal in the 1-1 draw.

But overall for one reason or another Giaccherini hasnt been a great success in the North East and having just turned 29 and with Gus Poyet looking to mould his own side, its believed that he could be surplus to requirements at Sunderland and they would be willing to move him on for something near the fee they paid a year ago.

It could be an astute buy for Saints, they certainly need options out wide and the Italian International also has an eye for goal with 4 in his 16(8) appearances in the Premier league this season.

Saints are rumoured to be keen to move fast with Giaccherini set to be named in Italy's World Cup squad for the summer

I wouldn't of thought so, we have Sinclair and Rowe in the u21s as-well as mayuka and isgrove out on loan, age 29 no chance.

Mayuka will never be ready and with the others still a year or two from being the finished article, if indeed they will be, signing a 29 year old makes good sense if he is a decent player and being in the italian squad he should be

Not for me - too old and too much. Not even fast enough.

Think this is agent talk I hope we are more ambitious than this.

I would have thought that our experience with Osvaldo may have taught us something?

If this fellow is any good then why would Sunderland, who will be playing in the premiership next season want him to leave?

Please, are there no home grown players in the lower leagues upon which we could take a punt. Either of the two ex Bournemouth players now at Burnley would have been a better bet surely?

On a different note has Ted bates turned into Ron Davies?

saintmark - There are plenty of good players who leave premiership clubs because they dont fit into the managers preferred style.

A good side has to have balance, we are probably top heavy on youth but light on experience, so he could be a good signing, the fact that he is a regular Italian international must tell us something.

I dont know if he is the player for us i dont know enough about him, but one thing over the last few years is that our best signings have been players of this ilk signed for a reasonable fee rather than over priced players like Osvaldo or unknowns like Forren or mayuka

I Wouldn't dream of saying Mayuka is good enough cos he's not but with so many options already we should get rid of some that wont make it, Matt Phillips would be worth a punt hes played over 200 games now and may b Zaha exciting times ahead i hope.

SaintNick- you may well be correct.

Perhaps I am letting my view be coloured by our recent transfer purchases which in my opinion are at best very poor and at worst catastrophic, leaving Lovern aside of course.

In any event thanks for a very interesting site and long may you continue.

SaintNick50..... are you saying you'd like Sherwood over Poch? If so put down the pills mate, they're not good for you.

We need to add experience and depth to the team - 5mil is peanuts nowdays so paying that for a 29 year old still makes business sense, assuming the boy can play and give us 2 or 3 seasons.

I still think shaw can move into midfield and blossom like Bale.

We definitely need at least one player with genuine pace and some goalscoring potential who can deliver accurately into the goal area...my preferences would be Zaha (because he is English and dovetailed well with Clyne at Palace) for youth and potential or Sessignon because he has considerable speed, clever feet and potentially 7 or 8 goals a season.
