Charlie Austin Regrets Spat With Saints Fans
at 12:12 2 Aug 2024

Speaking to the Echo he said

"Of course I regret it, it left a sour taste in the mouth," Austin told the Daily Echo. "I'd had a couple of beers. It was more tongue and cheek and then it got way out of hand.

"I enjoyed my time at Saints. They gave me the opportunity to play in the Premier League and the Europa League.

"We got to the League Cup final and lost to Manchester United but there is a black cloud because of a blip on my behalf.

"It kind of snowballed. I look back and think that shouldn't have happened. Of course, it shouldn't have.

"That's why I don't like the fact that when things get spoken about, that's what people mention. It's come from me by the way, I fully hold my hands up there.

"I've made a couple of mistakes in my career. I put in a transfer request when I was first at Swindon, had I been older I would have known it eventually happens.

"Then I had that and I think cor, could I have dealt with that better? 100 per cent."

Austin was eager to remain in the EFL but none of the offers he received piqued his interest enough to move away from his family.

"I had offers to play in the football league but things didn't fit the family. We still live in the same place as I did while I was playing for Saints.

"I moved to the other side of the world for six months. I came back and my kids are in school and settled. I didn't want to move up north for a year.

"I'm at a point in my career where I still want to play. I've still got a real love and hunger for football.

"It was something that arose. I'm really appreciative of everyone at Totton because they showed patience.

"I told them at the start that I wanted to play in the Football League. Nothing took my fancy. I didn't want to travel.

"I picked the conversation back up with James Beattie and the manager and here I am, I'm delighted to be here."

Song Du Jour - Double Header Edozie & Flynn
at 12:06 2 Aug 2024

Although I have left the selection of the daily song to my trusted lieutenant Pat from Poole, I thought this one need to be put out there if only that hopefully it won't be still stuck in my head and keep me awake at nights once I have got it out of my system

Older readers may remember the old childrens TV series Rosie & Jim

Rosie and Jim, Rosie and Jim
Chugging along on the old Ragdoll
Rosie and Jim, Rosie and Jim
And John he steers their boat

So here we go, the song made for Southampton

Edozie & Flynn, Edozie & Flynn
Charging around the St Mary's Pitch
Edozie & Flynn, Edozie & Flynn
And Russ he steers the ship.

Im sure other verses could be added

Club Captain Jack Stephens
at 23:13 1 Aug 2024

Reading the Daily Echo report on today's open training session and they referred to Jack Stephens as "Club Captain"

Rather than Captain and there is a distinction, wasn't he just plainly the Captain last season, can we expect a new Captain with Jack being moved sideways to the role of Club Captain, usually filled by a senior professional no longer a regular.

Russell Martin has already spoken of the leadership qualities of both Flynn Downes and Taylor Harwood Bellis.

5 Things About The Kassam Stadium
at 12:12 1 Aug 2024

1. It is an awful place to get to, few public transport links and surrounded by a business park and a council estate.

2, Parking was awful, they had two big car parks, both free of charge, but they were chaotic, it took over 30 mins from getting in the car to getting out the car park and that was just for a game with 5,000 in attendance, god knows how it copes with a 10k attendance.

3, The few from the away side was fine, but the concourse and toilets were a little cramped

4. The open end was surreal, there appeared to be a good view of the game from a little hill as some locals were on there.

5. Our support was good in numbers but as you would expect for a friendly it wasn't exactly Wembley standards in terms of noise

Who Is Going To Oxford
at 09:54 31 Jul 2024

We have sold 1,500 tickets roughly speaking for this game, which is a decent amount for a friendly, although I think Oxford may have their hands full when Palermo visit on Saturday.

Anyway who is going up tonight

Stuart Armstrong Signing For Sheffield United
at 10:51 29 Jul 2024

Yorkshire media saying deal agreed, this perhaps tells us something, Brentford were happy to let him train, even play a bit of a friendly, but don't seem to be going to take it any further.

All the interest seems to be from the Championship, I think that perhaps Stuart knows he hasn't got the fitness levels anymore for the top flight and rather than sign a new deal at St Mary's and perhaps tarnish his standing with the fans, he opted to leave.

5 Things From Eastleigh On Friday
at 21:48 21 Jul 2024

1. It was good to see so many kids in Eastleigh shirts, although the crowd was mostly Saints, good to see Eastleigh are building up support, with many priced out of Premier League/Championship football there has to be an entry level.

2. Eastleigh has become a nice compact stadium, bit different from the last time i pleyed there in 2003.

3, Downside is the location, a bit in the middle of nowhere, walking back Stoneham Lane towards Swaythling was a bit dodgy due to the number on the pavement and traffic, luckily it was light still.

4. Nice atmosphere although i didn't here much from the Eastleigh end

5. All in all a good evening out everyone seemed to enjoy it from both sides
