Poll: Are the owners doing enough for Swansea City

Curtis was given the job until the end of the season and less than three weeks later we had the debacle at Oxford where Curt made Bartley the captain of our club and the Sunderland game where we were screwed by the ref but shot ourselves in the foot by inexplicably taking Leon off when we went down to ten men.

Curt was visibly ageing before our eyes and suddenly Guidolin came out of nowhere to replace the man who had just been given the job until the end of the season.

I have heard, and am convinced that it's true, that Curt went to the board after Sunderland on the Wednesday night and told them he couldn't cope. Guidolin was in Swansea in less than a week.

We sacked Monk without a plan even though it was obvious to everyone for weeks that he was killing us by playing Bartley and preferring Shelvey to Siggy in the number 10 role. What were the board doing when it was clear for weeks that Monk needed replacing with an experienced operator? They were far to busy whoring their shares to anyone with money to give it a second thought until their pot of gold became under serious threat by the increasing likelihood of relegation. Then they panicked.

Well he seemed to cope in what was probably the defining moment of the season when we beat Arsenal and Norwich in the space of a few days anyway.

It's not exactly like that on the continent though is it? A manager/head coach will identify a list of players and give it to the chairman and have no more to do with it untill some of those players arrive.

How do we know that didn't happen and Jenkins simply failed to sign anyone from the wish-list or (more likely) disagreed with those on it?

The Oxford game was one of the lowest points for me in a long time.
I wouldn't be at all surprised if this what happened, timing wise it all makes sense. It could be that Alan Curtis is happy to coach and doesn't feel comfortable about or doesnt want the grief of being a manager, there is no shame in that. Maybe that's why when FG's card was marked, the board didn't go back to AC. I would be happy to have AC in my club in any capacity.

Yes, because the pressure had been lifted from him by Guidolin's arrival with other coaching staff.

Either way, he didn't keep us up and he isn't dragging us down now. He had a prominent role on the coaching staff then, as he does now.

Well if you think the pressure was off when we went to the Emirates that's up to you but it clearly wasn't.

We played a weakened team at the Emirates with an eye on the relegation 6 pointer the following weekend. We got battered and lucked out. We were happy to sacrifice that game to increase our chances of beating Norwich. It was a great win, but don't pretend it was a tactical master class.

From memory, Kingsley played his first league game, we dropped Siggy and brought Gomis back in?

The pressure on Curtis was less as he was no longer manager! That much is obvious.

At some clubs it's exactly like that, with a Director of Football doing all the identification of players. Some managers have input, some don't. Often head coaches simply coach, working with what they're given. The British "Manager" approach isn't the norm worldwide.

Palermo would be a relevant example given Guidolin's history with them and their owner (a mentalist and Jenkins-type chairman/DoF figure, who shuffles managers in and out on a whim).

Well Guidolins a f*cking idiot then because no manager worth his salt would work like that.
Oh and the same at the current one too and the one before Guidolin tok.

Why not? It's a job, it's a paycheque, in a way it's less pressure and responsibility and if that's how someone likes working what's your issue with it?

Managers don't live and die by performances. Clubs do. Guidolin might be at Inter before too long. What an idiot!

Well that's just plain silly Phil like most of your posts these days.

No manager has been allowed to bring in as many players as ML in our history so that pretty much nullifies your silly post.

I just hope we stay close for as long as possible. I can't think of anything more soul destroying than being all but down when it's still winter and just having to wait for mathematical certainty like dead men walking.

Agreed. 7 months of death-throes will be excrutiating, mind.

Duh!

It's not about quantity. It's about Jenkins making his own fücking lists...

So you give him the credit when things go well and dismiss him as a peripheral figure when they don't. Whoever the manager is, they can't win in that scenario. Just wait for the Americans to do the exact opposite and give him unfair blame if our bad run continues

Everything is black and white with Daz he doesn't do in between lve said it before. Guidolin was working with his hands tied behind his back and on his own he was treated appalling by Jenkins, l bet they rarely spoke either Jenkins probably even used to blank him cause he was/his to wrapped up in his own self importance. Bradley has got a huge job in front of him with very little experience at this level to call upon, the Yanks won't get rid of him either as they'll see it as a failure, so he's got to learn and keep his mate Fergie on speed dial because he needs experienced help from somewhere.

It's how Barca and Real Madrid work. In fact the vast majority of successful overseas clubs do to.
The theory behind it is very sound.
Problem is when you have a Huw doing the business it's totally flawed.
Guido got the job because he was happy for this to be the strategy. And he knew it worked at other clubs. However, the minute he disclosed it to the media, he was on borrowed time.
You may recall I mentioned the way we recruited some time ago on the other PS website. I was shouted down and told not to be stupid. Fact is Huw has been at this since Sousa.
