Dumphy it's time to act and act fast, let's stop going down the cheap route as usual and let's get someone in charge with experience. You fell very very lucky with Keith Hill cheap notion who did a brilliant job but face it that was a one off.

Chies Beach great youth coach but not a league manager, sort it out or I will tell you this we are going down.

We were relegated when we sold Chris O'Grady.
Chris Beech will do fine. I trust him to undo the mess made by Eyre (and the sale of CoG) and prepare us for the inevitable League 2 campaign next season. The board should focus on making sure this club can make money now the golden eggs aren't being laid. THAT is our biggest challenge, not the relegation fight.

Agree when we sold the best ever player for Rochdale we were doomed, but once again we should have paid Ogradys wage bill and not been so narrow minded as we are always and gone forward and not back.Typical Rochdale lets do things on the cheap and hope for the best.

Wasn't COG offered the biggest ever contract for a Dale player?

Or are you saying we should have matched what Wednesday are paying him?

We had to ssell O'Grady. As for Beech, let's give him a little more time. Turning aaround the mess of a season is an incredible ask and anyone who can do that will have done very, very well. Let's give CB a little more time to prove himself. I have faith, a couple of new, permanent signings this week and I think we could be on our way. All I want is to see some progress and a team who give it a go.

Matched what they offered and kept him, and then gone forward rather than gone back ways on.

I dont pay much attention to this anymore now, plenty of teams get their best striker sold but manage to survive, its simply now an excuse, one thats wearing a bit thin.

Life is a game of fate.

Agree, Beech will do fine & given time will undo the mess we now find ourselves in.
Our relegation was not caused by the the sale of O'Grady alone but more by the failure of the board to re-invest any of the proceeds of that sale or the sale of Done, Wiseman etc in half decent replacements.Instead, the new manager had to rely on loan after loan after loan, with the inevitable consequences.
Sadly, at the moment, Dunphy & co are playing the same hand again now that Beech has taken over.

I posted a while ago that I expect us to be relegated regardless of who is the manager, club is in a bit of a mess. An experienced. Head wouldn't guarantee survival but I see enough in Beech to think he's worth a good few games as caretaker.

I think we have 2 choices.

Try to get a Billy Davis, O'Driscall or Dowie short term and really go for survival.

Or give it Beech, give it a go for a few weeks (which I think Omerod and Bog show this), if we are doomed, give it him longer term and use the rest of the season to plan for next year.

Everything thats been, has past. The answers in the looking glass!

Beech knows if he doesn't succeed he won't get the manager's job long term. If we're relegated he'll then have the decision to make about his role with the youth team.

But he wasn't our best striker was he. He was so much more than that.

IMHO Beech is a good one. Let the fella make mistakes, so long as he learns from them he'll do ok. Next game is a bloody hard one. Actually, I can't think of a more difficult home game to have. A game most fans would expect you to win on name value, but in reality they're a horrible lot who'll be well prepared.

So you'd have no problem with probably about a third of the playing budget going on one player?

Pearlstreet are you for real? For one, O'Grady was a class player but not Rochdale's best ever player. We would have had to offer COG a ridiculous amount of money to stay (maybe even more than Sheff Wed and even then they would have probably matched it) owing to the fact that he had an offer from a much bigger club which would be playing at a higher level than us in the not too distant future. Rochdale has always and will probably always be a selling club, if a good offer comes in for a player 9/10 times we will have to take it and rebuild, that's just the way it is.

Well you can't really compare players in different positions but if you're putting the question to me then I'll name 3 off the bat. Holt (EPL regular and doing very well), Lambert (One of the best players in the Ch'ship' and could play at a higher level) and of course Dawson (Established U21 England International with 3(?), impressing for West Brom in recent weeks and seriously pushing for a first team place at the tender age of 21).

Good point but all I am saying is that we should have bent over backwards to sign COG and go forward and not let him go and try to replace him with likes of Grimes and that sort if shite player. We should be going forward.

We did bend over backwards. Sheff Wed offered him more and the player wanted to leave.

What more could have been done?

Edit. We didn't replace him with Grimes. He was brought in to play alongside COG.

I don't think we will have let O'Grady go without a fight. I'm sure Dunphy knew how important he was to the team and our survival chances, he will have offered him as much as we possibly could...To be honest, O'Grady doesn't seem like the kind of player to be motivated by money (if there is such a breed!). I think the lure of a bigger club and the very realistic possiblity of a higher standard of football will have been the deciding factor in him signing for The Owls.
