Are the pitch covers going on later? on 11:40 - Jan 15 with 6160 views | Yorkshire_Dale | Last night was well below and tomorrow temps are barely above freezing for the duration of the match........should be ok but wrap up warm and gloves definetly needed.
Are the pitch covers going on later? on 11:43 - Jan 15 with 6143 views | dingdangblue | I would imagine they would have been used the last few nights - a bit useless once the frost has already got into the pitch nearest the main stand - I'm sure the groundsman will have learned from the Leyton Orient debacle last season.

Are the pitch covers going on later? on 11:52 - Jan 15 with 6108 views | KenBoon | Bloody frosty and icy as heck walking in to work this morning. How I never slipped on my arse I don't know. Phone did a great (it's a ) prank on me by saying it was 4c. Get them pitch covers on and get gritting the car park/pothole land.

That sounds ominous...........according to BBC it should be -1 degree at 1100hrs but "warming up" to 0 degrees thereafter............may put a few folk of travelling?

There is now an article on the OS that says the club believes temperatures will drop as low as -3 tonight and remain cold on Saturday.

That sounds ominous, the club needn't forecast its going to be -3 overnight - to me that sounds like they are making sure we know why its off even before the inspection. If its frozen today already then its not going to improve tomorrow.

Are the pitch covers going on later? on 12:23 - Jan 15 with 5998 views | D_Alien | It's entirely possible that given the mess Hornets left it in, the pitch wouldn't be fit for professional football even without the frost. If Oli's back on the scene, his input (even without being currently employed by Dale) might hopefully help rectify some of the damage. As much as any key player, Oli has been missed.

Are the pitch covers going on later? on 12:23 - Jan 15 with 5997 views | deeplishblue | Pitch inspection? - that's a cause for concern, reckon that we only survive about 10% of inspections. I thought that our covers protected the picth to -5 ? don't think it's been that cold. Perhaps the Hornets match has had an adverse effect and rutted the pitch (puts on tin hat ready for Diddy Dave)

Too late for me...have to set off way before 11.00. Sounds like the club think it will be off.

Nail smacked firmly on head, less to do with the frost and more to do with how bad the pitch was after Sunday.......

Ouch!! does not sound great... I hope the covers were on last night? the lowest its been is -2 we should be able to cope with that!.
Are the pitch covers going on later? on 13:48 - Jan 15 with 5741 views | KenBoon | Sounds like a nailed on postponement. Do 'ornets have a game on Sunday? If so it might be worth our match being off if it means 'the RLFC' match is off too.

I appreciate your comments and its nice to know my hard work alongside drew didn't go unnoticed. I cant give any comments about the situation there is now as I haven't been down to the ground since the Chesterfield game. Hoping the games on tomorrow and im sure rob and drew will be doing all they can to get the game on.
Are the pitch covers going on later? on 13:54 - Jan 15 with 5710 views | rich_dale | If last Sunday does cause or contribute to a postponement the rule from now should be that Hornets treat and respect the pitch as a football pitch and postpone matches if they would be postponed as football matches.
Are the pitch covers going on later? on 13:55 - Jan 15 with 5696 views | 49thseason | If the game is on tomorrow I think it would be a good move to "forget" to put the covers back after the game to stop the friendly on Sunday. That would give two weeks before the pitch was require for football. The weather look generally warmer towards next friday.

I've asked the same question before. Apart from owning Hornets shares by default I imagine they put nothing into the stadium. Hornets rent (whenever they pay) and Dale's rent has to cover the upkeep of Spotland. I'm guessing any pitch maintenance, covers, floodlight improvements have all solely been paid for by Dale. The quicker we get the ground ownership finally completed the better for all parties.

I would of thought that the covers should have been able to have been put over the pitch before the frost had arrived midway through the week, after a day or twos work on it. Every one knew that the cold snap was coming. The only doubt would surely have been had there been enough time to fix any problems the pitch would have had from last weekends games. Reading the other thread, it seams that the pitch might have had too much damage done to it last weekend , to be fixed to be playable. [Post edited 15 Jan 2016 21:55]

If its not frozen it should be playable. Just because its been covered in sand and the surface is wrecked shouldn't make a difference - Blackpools pitch last season was horrendous - but the still had to use it.
