Are the pitch covers going on later? on 22:30 - Jan 15 by dingdangblue | If its not frozen it should be playable. Just because its been covered in sand and the surface is wrecked shouldn't make a difference - Blackpools pitch last season was horrendous - but the still had to use it. |
I agree, might not be to the standard we would like but should be playable, my main point is that measures to prevent a frozen pitch, should have been in place, as the freezing weather did not come un expectedly, and there has been plenty of time to get the covers on. When did the sub zero temperatures arrive, was it Tuesday?

Mooneydale posted Wednesday lunch that they were covering the pitch with sand. So hopefully they covered it before then because I definitely had to defrost my car Wednesday morning - so it was freezing Tuesday night.

There is a light frost on the ground, but I reckon if it was playable yesterday then there should be no problem today. If it wasn't playable yesterday then that's when it should have been called off, because it was never going to improve.

It was minus 3 last night. There has not anything too severe in the past few days and nights.

Or maybe they got their covers on sooner to prevent frost getting into the pitch, or they have better covers, or its slightly warmer there which made a difference.

The first 2 points raise the question of why? The temperature will not be significantly different so we'll rule that out.

I was being flippant with the temperature comment. If the covers have failed, then that,s poor, as it has not been a very severe frost, I don't believe we have had lower than minus 5 degrees, and most of the time it's been around freezing point or above. Indeed yesterday it was raining so was plenty above freezing. The question that needs answering is why did the covers not get put on in time, if they didn't, as that is the only reason the pitch should be frozen.

We'll have to see what comes out of the club by way of explanation. bUrys pitch started the season in a worse state than ours so I'd love to know how they can play today and we can't.

Our main stand does not help. Zero sun on that side of the pitch.

I read somewhere we had enough covers to double up on the Main Stand strip? If not why not........?
Are the pitch covers going on later? on 15:14 - Jan 16 with 1413 views | D_Alien | The elephant in the room here, is the club deliberately withheld putting the covers on to have the game postponed because we didn't want to risk the players on those parts of the surface most badly damaged by the egg chasers. If they'd been put on in good time, the pitch would've been playable when removed; however, with the temperature barely rising above zero today it could still have been dangerous by the start of the second half. This gives the ground staff more time to work on it, once the temperatures have risen.

As been stated on another post the weather near the ground last night went down to -5.4C and it was still -2.3C at 9.45am I don't know what the weather is at Spotland but now (up in the hills three miles north of Bolton) it's snowing heavily So if we had started the pitch would have become more and more dangerous as it got colder by the minute

Glorious morning up Lobden, but the ground was like concrete! Frost covers might make a difference when it's marginal, but last night was a seriously hard frost.
