Good Luck UK on 18:37 - Dec 15 by BazzaInTheLoft | As a disabled man, your cutting your nose of to spite your face will ultimately effect you a lot harder than it will me. This may be cruel to say but it’s true. |
I live in a safe Labour seat, in fact, their majority went up, a fat lot of good it does me when your lot pissed off so many others in what were also safe Labour seats and lost 59 of them You did not just cut off your nose with far-left leaders but fecked everyone else. You were warned by many on here but you just shouted abuse back. Remind me of the result again? [Post edited 15 Dec 2019 19:07]

Sorry Sharpy, I wasn't reading that one way or the other. Just surprised that anyone thinks the border is a red herring, that's all, though I also fully appreciate the nuances and feelings over here have not been given much coverage over there.

I voted with my conscience and with policy in mind, how is that cutting my nose off? I didn't vote in a spiteful manner like you did 'to teach anyone a lesson'. You've been boasting on here about how you won't vote Labour, which is your perogative. I'm just saying it might have been unwise. You can blame 'my lot' all day if you want, but if you didn't even vote for your own interests then how can you expect to be taken seriously when you whine and bleat. Labour have clearly made mistakes many of which have been aired on this website, but i'll tell you something, it wasn't a spiteful endeavour. It was done by people who who worked in their free time at the cost of jobs, relationships, and health for what they thought was the betterment of everyone. You can't say the same. You need to read again what I said about the area I live in but you're good at not taking notice. My vote made no difference whatsoever in this election. You let down the people whos vote may have done in the north, go up there and tell them how hard you worked but how sorry you are and what bastards they are, I'm sure they will be impressed. The road to hell is paved with good intentions and that's where Labour is now. [Post edited 15 Dec 2019 19:26]

Good Luck UK on 21:06 - Dec 14 by BrianMcCarthy | What are your views on how this affects Ireland, border(s) and violence? Would really like to know what the feeling is now. |
I suspect that a United Ireland has moved a lot closer. I have no idea how anybody will control a 500km border, with 208 official crossing points, used by 35,000 people every day. And I refuse to accept bullshit about Trusted Trader schemes and electronic monitoring. They may have a part to play but a minor part.

How did you know your vote makes no difference? Blyth (Tory) has been Labour since 1935 and Canterbury (Labour) has been Tory since it's existence. Their votes made no difference once. What a lazy cop out. Just like with QPR you are all piss and vinegar but from an armchair.

Agreed, I think Northern Ireland will probably be cut loose, if not in Johnson's first term then early in his second. The Unionists will already be seen as a headache that doesn't need putting up with anymore. Scotland will be more complicated - the Tories will be keen to make a show of pushing Sturgeon around as it plays well with the home crowd. Can see that situation getting pretty hectic pretty fast.

The counter to this is that the Conservative party becomes almost unbeatable in an FPTP system restricted to only England (and Wales). I cannot believe this won’t play a part in their strategy. From what i’ve heard, I think they’ll act tough for a bit with Sturgeon but gradually let it happen, and leave it to a Gordon Brown to protect and maintain the Union. He will give it a great go, with a strong team and message but it’ll be an uphill struggle. Sadly I can see Scotland leaving, being a far weaker and poorer country as a result, dividing the Union, installing the Tories forever, and setting up Wales to start talking about independence, whilst Northern Ireland becomes a hotter topic, led by Sinn Fein. We could end up being out of Europe and just “England”, whilst the rest of the Union follows suit: achieving independence at the expense of wealth and standards of living. All a bit sad really. Hopefully none of that comes to fruition.

I suppose we should ask Sturgeon as she claims that if Scotland got indepedence (post brexit) and were in EU there would be no need for a border between Scotland & England. She obviously is aware of something we are not! If there is no need as she claims, this would mean no need between Eire & N.I. Suggest EU & Boris find out her magic formula

Thing is, if you're Johnson and Cummings, why would you have any problem with all that happening? As you say, publicly pushing Sturgeon around will be a good way to play to the gallery - especially with Corbyn no longer around to be the punchbag - but longer term, the electoral maths will be hard to resist. Politically, the trick will be to somehow let independence happen while making it look like Sturgeon/Scotland has been defeated. Not sure how you do that, but if anyone can pull it off, you imagine it's Dominic Cummings. [Post edited 15 Dec 2019 20:39]

How could you possibly have known your vote was worthless until the result was declared? Am I missing something? You haven’t earned your ire mate, at either QPR or the Labour Party. Norf, Nix, and ETB amongst many others have. It’s no coincidence that you are the only one I have thrown an insult at today and others. Empty vessels make the most noise. I respect the result, and I respect the opinions of others that took the time to vote. The Labour Party obviously went wrong somewhere, and the answer probably lies amongst the variety of opinions on here. You take care, and maybe I’ll see you at Loftus Rd on Saturday where I’ll buy you a pint. Of course I won’t, you’ll be on here spitting bile at a match you haven’t seen, after spitting bile at a election you never voted in.

There seems to be more than enough sentiment along the lines of “fck Scotland let them fck off” without even needing to make out it’s a fight. If we held an English independence referendum we’d probably go for it.
