Have watched the dale forover 40 years and have not really experienced such a high then low in just 60 seconds. gutted. We may not have stayed up anyway but that goal certainlykilled us of

Closest was when we were 2-0 up at half time many years ago in a key promotion game v Peterborough and lost 3-2 to end our chances

Agree, the biggest kick in the balls at Spotland ever.

For me it's still Lee Hughes wrestling past Stanton to score at Meadow Lane in the promotion season. I felt sick then as that was the moment we knew we'd really handed our title to cvnty.

John Coleman described it as he 'worst ever football moment'.
For me that last goal by FCUM against us in the cup probably pips it. Even so, it was pretty gutting yesterday when that final goal went in.

1971 Colchester scoring twice in last 5 mins to tie the fourth round cup tie at Spotland. What happened yesterday just means the inevitable comes sooner.

You could have finished your sentence at the word Hughes.

I think any other season, it would have felt like a massive kick in the balls. But this season, it just felt like typical Dale (we seemed to have conceded far more goals within a minute of scoring than ever before this season).

As DDB mentioned last night Rufus Brevett scoring for Fulham in THAT League Cup tie must rank up there, as for yesterday I still find myself shaking my head just at the thought of it.

When you think back, yesterday is certainly in the top half dozen or so, and was as quick a change from elation to despair as I can remember... but the FCUM goal was worse, because it was blatant cheating, and the Colchester 1971 2 late goals that forced a replay is probably the worst feeling I have ever felt...especially as they won the replay 5-0 and then beat Leeds on TV.

Good shout for the Lincoln game... we were 2-0 up when the added time board was put up, and somehow allowed them to score twice.

Possibly the reverse of that was when Shrewsbury celebrated an injury time equaliser against us in our first game at their new ground.

And I was thinking of the goal Rushden and diamonds scored a minute after we had fortuitously taken the lead in that playoff tie.

The worm of time turns not for the cuckoo of circumstance.

Don't ask me the year but we had Burnley at home last game of the season, we had to win to make the playoffs.

It was actually the last game in the division, it had been postponed 2 times so with all the other games played we knew what we had to do.

I always remember Barry Fry attending the game as he was manager of the team that would sneak into the play-offs had we lost (think it was barnet)

I'm sure we took the lead only to lose the game.

We did, through John Ryan.

We ended up losing 3-1.

Thought so.

Thanks.. that was bar far the worst time for me as it was a glimer of hope during a pretty poor few years for dale.

Don't really know why - but I was more affected by the last minute defeat to Chester about 3/4 years ago - Alfie had scored in the Sandy - only for it to be disallowed for offside. They took the free-kick came straight upfield and scored.

Full time at Wembley was pretty awful. As was losing to Rushden at Spotland.

God the playoffs (and this thread) are depressing!

My worst was a 1-0 last minute defeat at Swansea when Parkin's team couldn't score for toffee. The fact that it was a Friday night and I got in at 2.30 sealed the deal.

Poll: Should Bury shop elsewhere for frames?

When Matt Doughty fell on his arse and Onandi Lowe went on to score was gut wrenching. I was only about 16 or so and had never seen Dale ever even resemble a successful side who could go up and that one hurt like hell. More so than Wembley as I never really expected us to win there. Even when McArdle headed home, me and former messageboard tipster Anthony Kaminskas looked at each other as if to say we didn't fancy a win.

Saturday didn't affect me as it did others. This is because, at 3-2, my head was saying, a win will only tease us further. Yes, I celebrated but I wasn't bouncing about the Sandy and when Butler equalised, I merely stood there, not knowing how to react. I've accepted we're down and only a miracle will change that, and I'm not religious.

If I hadn't seen such riches, I could live with being poor

Andy Flounders missed a second half penalty too, saved by our former loanee from earlier on during that season David Williams!

Your right it was another depressing evening at Spotland that!

Lost count the number of times i've felt sick to the core thanks to our beloved Dale, Saturday was bad but it somehow it just summed up the whole season. Got to say the worst ever was the FA cup aginst FC scum, made worse by their moronic brain dead "supporters".
