Stadium expansion should go ahead with no worries. We are not a small club. 13:47 - Apr 28 with 9467 viewsNOTRAC

We often read on here of over expectations and that we are currently punching above our weight. However with four years experience of the Premiership to look forward to next year, plus a no debt situation perhaps it is time to revalue ourselves on the Premier stage.
There is no doubt that where we let ourselves down at the moment is in ground capacity. At a maximum of 20,750 we have the smallest Stadium in the league and perhaps we associate this with doubts regarding filling additional seating if we expand ,based on the idea that population wise we perform badly when compared with other other cities and towns in the Premiership.
However in general this is not so and if we allow for the fact that Manchester and Liverpool support two teams ,most, including ourselves are very close to each other as follows
Southampton population. 253651
Newcastle. 280200
Liverpool. 466400 but support two teams therefore 233200 each.
West Brom. 135618
Sunderland. 275500
Stoke. 249000
Hull. 256100
Norwich. 213166
Manchester. 503000 but support two teams therefore 256500 each
Cardiff. 346000
Swansea. 239600
The two teams already promoted for next year have populations as follows
Leicester. 329900
Burnley. 73500
I have not included the London clubs as their catchment area is close and huge but the populations of the actual areas where London clubs exist is not huge eg Fulham 165242, Tottenham115965 and Chelsea 36 828.
The major anomaly in the lists is Aston Villa the sole representative in the Premiership of Birmingham with a population of 1074000.
On the basis of population areas we should have no fears in increasing our capacity to well above 30000.The sooner we do this the better.
In no way then could we be described as a small club punching above our weight.

It is all about desire. If the Board are really serious about expansion,it could happen within months.
We need to wake up to the fact that we are one of the biggest businesses in Wales.Perhaps we need more expertise on the Board?

True. Perhaps there is a little bit of "the graveyard of ambition" about all of this

Manchester's public transport system is superb but Citeh have dozens of double decker buses outside the ground to take people into the centre for a couple of quid.

Leeds were doing the double deckers twenty years ago. We are so far behind it's laughable!
We need to change the access roads, put footbridges in so the roads stay open, put Landore station back and lay on buses.
It's not rocket science but it won't be cheap. And that's the problem, the club and the council both want it on the cheap!

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

Bolton supply double deckers also and there is a major dual carriage way within yards of their ground, brilliant traffic management system with a person controlling the traffic lights in accordance with traffic flow.

Old Trafford is situated in what can only be descried as an area similar to Sandfields where The Vetch was. The roads are extremely thin and there are no major roads around the stadium.

There is a tram station a 5 minute walk away which has trams running almost non stop before and after games for 2 hours which helps clear tens of thousands of people from the area extremely quickly. They also close all the roads and allowing large numbers of people to walk away quickly. Where as we leave the roads open and cross our fingers that nobody gets run over at the roundabout while 30 or so police officers stand there and have a chat. It's a farce.

We have a railway station a 60 second walk from the stadium. We are a 5 minute bus ride from the city centre. There are numerous dual carriage ways surrounding the stadium which could be manipulated to control inflowing and outflowing traffic. It really isn't that difficult and the fact the board expect us to believe that this 'traffic problem' is delaying the expansion is disgusting and shows what they think of their customers.

Please let this be the last time its ever mentioned the station at Landore will never ever be reopened for the sole use of Swansea City FC on match day's,not in the electrification plans and okay as yet these have not been finalised the capital set up cost & ongoing associated costs would be prohibitive, guess who would have to foot the bills Swansea City FC.

I was born and bred in the Sandfields and have a flat a five minute walk from Old Trafford.
There are numerous major roads around the stadium; the two areas couldn't be more different...

Apart from that, not bad.

Hmm, okay. I have never noticed any. When I've been there I go via the tram and just follow that one closed road which goes past the cricket ground. I haven't really seen the other sides of the ground etc.

You have to cross Chester Road (A56) on the way to the ground from the tram - it's six lanes wide at the junction with Sir Matt Busby Way...

While we're in the PL - "We can't build mun, we might get relegated"

In the Championship " - We can't build mun, we're not in the PL"

Board are happy without the bother.

The line out of Swansea to the West, goes through Landore and has never been in any plans for electrification. It'd still have more footfall annually than Llansamlet and similar current stops. £5m is chicken feed for public transport, the council have probably spent that in studies into reducing Hafod traffic

Apart from our bias towards football why would a train station be built about 2 mins away from the main station.

If it was properly advertised and the fans could rely on it (unlike the buses) quite a few who drive now may be persuaded to leave their cars at home and make a day of it.
Would it hurt the inter city trains to have one extra stop and the sprinters to and from Swansea , Llansamlet , Skewen , Neath etc???
No need for extra trains I would imagine

I see your point but how many live close enough to a station to not use their cars especially as the season is mostly over the poor weather seasons. It would take a lot to get people away from their cars

No idea of the answer but I don't think there would be enough of an uptake to spend that money on it.

There'd be plenty of fans using it from Llanelli station and loads from Gorseinon, Loughor, Gower and Killay willing to utilise the Gowerton station

Been to OT plenty of times and there may be lots of traffic lights but there are dual carriageways around half the ground.

Anfield is surrounded by terraced houses.

Any delay in building is in the club's hands, planning permission was given without conditions apparently.

I don't think so, we're not being told everything but not necessarily lied to. I thought it was outline planning that had been granted and that it did come with conditions, once those conditions are met then planning may be granted. Surprised to hear from Dave that planning was granted without condition.

I asked someone in the planning department if he knew why there was a delay, he said no as permission had been granted. I know someone who was actually in the planning meeting where it was decided, I'll ask more questions.

Planning permission has not yet (technically) been granted.

The planning applications seeks full planning permission (not outline consent as some have suggested here). The Council have resolved to grant planning permission subject to the club entering a Section 106 agreement (which in lay man's terms is a legal agreement which secures certain issues such as infrastructure improvements etc depending on the individual scheme). This is standard fare for different types of planning applications, especially those of this magnitude.

The s106 agreement is currently being drafted/refined. When this is done, the relevant parties can each sign it and hence 'enter into the agreement'. At that time, the planning permission will be issued.

Thus, providing the club complies with the requirements of the s106 and any conditions forming part of the planning permission, they can in theory then start work (from a planning perspective anyway).
