What are the clubs options really though?

Fine Barton 2 weeks wages or pay off his contract at great expense - anything else?

Not defending Barton either (definately a red) but i really don't believe that the linesman had a clear view of the incident from where he was on the other side of the pitch with 4 or 5 players between them.

I think it was another case of an official guessing and Barton's reputation sealing the decision - only unlike Norwich they guessed correctly this time.

Craig Burley just said Mark Hughes and his backroom team don't rate Barton highly as a player and they don't rate him as a person either and he's not part of their plans.

Strong words.

Market for the length of Barton's ban:

And a market for him being at QPR at the start of next season:

Are players held to the same employment laws as the rest of us? I know that if I showed any violence to my co-workers or anyone outside the company (while representing my company) I would be sacked on the spot.
With regard to TF's answer there was nothing else he could say really. Any incident needs to be investigated and any action would take place after that.

He sounds like he will let the manager do his job and manage players. How long were we waiting for something like that to happen under tango and cash?

I think Dave mc is wrong on this. You don't buy a dog and bark yourself. The manager should be left to manage and the chairman should back him. That is exactley what TF is doing and good on him for that.

Option 3. Terminate his contract with immediate effect and no payoff on the grounds of gross misconduct.

Let him sue the club. No court in the land would rule in his favour.

Its a sending off and some afters - its not gross misconduct or assault!

If Tevez and Balotelli can't be sacked then neither can Barton.

Don't forget Mancini said both would never play for City again and yet there he is with arms round both yesterday - so I think Tony F and Mark H are taking a very sensible line and not rushing in and condemning JB 24 hours after the game - unlike some of our "fans"

So with your use of exclamation marks, are you suggesting that those criticising JB are not (proper) fans? Good grief.

Doesn't seem very supportive to call him a c*** or that he should be charged with assault or be sacked - how many players have been sent for VC this season - how many posts have said any of them should be sacked or charged by the police as some have said on here about JB

Seems a bit odd to me and not very supportive or fan like.

Its obvious some on here have an agenda with him and i think he should be treated like other players - yes its his 2nd and 3rd VC offence and he should be punished accordingly but that's all it is - if we had sacked all our players who got sent off we certainly wouldn't be safe now that's for sure!

I don't have an agenda with Barton but with the money he is earning here I was expecting a lot more of him over the whole season. Personally (and it is only my opinion) I think he has serious self control issues and with a squad our size we can't afford to have a player that is so prone to reacting to provocation.
Also think that his tweets haven't helped. Yes he apologised but in the next breath is joking about it. Sorry but he is a captain and should act like one. Shaun Derry had a case to land one on Young in a match that he admitted was probably going to be the highlight of his career but he acted howa professional should.
There is no excuse for Barton's behaviour. If he had just got the red card I could accept that he reacted to provaction but to react how he did after it is inexcusable IMO.

If elbowing someone in the throat, kneeing another in the back and throwing a headbutt at a third person does not constitute gross misconduct I'd love to hear your version of what does.

If you, or I elbowed a colleague, kicked Phil in I.T and head butted the receptionist on the way out the door we would be in custody. It's only because he's a footballer that Barton isn't. Footballers are bound by the same codes of behaviour and conduct as any other employee.

That's before we cover his twitter threats made to Gary Lineker today....

As for Tevez, City didn't want to sack him. Sacking him meant he could go wherever he wanted on a free. As it is he's come back, helped them to a title and can now leave for £30m+.

Totally agree. It was gross misconduct. Sacking him is certainly 1 of the options. It's not as if we'd get a fortune ( or even a fee) for him. His wages are high and he's unlikely to be available for a sizeable portion of next season.

It puts Bartons actions into perspective if you think about the way Derry left the pitch against ManU. He had done nothing wrong, there was a player lying on the floor within kicking distance who had just cheated and got him sent off in what is probably the highlight of his career so far. And yet, he still had the professionalism and basic common decency to accept an unjust situation and not make himself or QPR look like complete tools.

If any of the mans attitude can be passed on to our younger players (or even some of the more established ones) it will be a credit to the club.

That's exactly what i thought when he said it.

After some long deliberation, i agree with the try to sack him school of thought.

I could easily forgive him, but i just don't know if he is that good a player, i'm not yet convinced, and all the tweeter stuff is embarassing at best. If his ego is more important than the team and he's always going to cause trouble and we can sack him for nothing, then let's just cut him loose and move on. Just not worth the hassle. Diakite and Faurlin.

But if they keep JB, i'll continue to offer him my full support as always.

Exactly. Anything else would be interference, ans we've had enough of that around here recently.

Even if Fernandes wanted to express his opinion or preference to Hughes, it should be done in private, and the public utterances should be just as they are now.

I don't agree with Fernandes' Twitter-world, but he's handling this very well.
