The Daily Fail believe that the club is investigating tearing up his contract due to gross misconduct.

So expect a new contract to be announced imminently.

Its a sending off and some afters - its not gross misconduct or assault!

If Tevez and Balotelli can't be sacked then neither can Barton.

Don't forget Mancini said both would never play for City again and yet there he is with arms round both yesterday - so I think Tony F and Mark H are taking a very sensible line and not rushing in and condemning JB 24 hours after the game - unlike some of our "fans"

If we had been relegated on Sunday, we'd all want to throttle him. I can understand Fernandes not talking about it to the media as he is probably getting legal advice on the matter. It's not just the reds cards it's his behaviour in general, every time he upsets someone on twitter it reflects badly on the club.

Mancini will get rid of Tevez.

I didn't catch all of it but Phil Beard has just been on Sky News saying that he will be discussing it with the owners today. He said anyone has a responsibility to the business they are employed by to represent that business in the best way possible.

Which comes back to Gross Misconduct, and whether the club are brave enough to pull the triggers and see Joseph in court.

If you read Clive's preview, Mancini had a horrible record as a player and he was one of the world's greats. Passion maybe, stupidity too. I think Hughes will straighten him out, take a bit of work mind.

He has let the club down big time and is very lucky Stoke equalised. He is a wrong un but I've supported him and he had seemed to have turned the corner. The fact is he will get a minimum of 10 game ban so he is not relevant for over quarter of next season.

I hope he serves his ban quietly and gets his head down as I expect us to have moved on in the midfield area so he will have to work hard to get back near the team. My concern is that he doesn't do things quietly and can be an unnecessary distraction to what the club are trying to achieve.

What are the clubs options really though?

Fine Barton 2 weeks wages or pay off his contract at great expense - anything else?

Not defending Barton either (definately a red) but i really don't believe that the linesman had a clear view of the incident from where he was on the other side of the pitch with 4 or 5 players between them.

I think it was another case of an official guessing and Barton's reputation sealing the decision - only unlike Norwich they guessed correctly this time.

Apart from they did guess because had they got it absolutley correct Tevez would have been red carded twice (once for striking Hill earlier) and secondly for striking Barton which led to retailiation.
Typical that QPR (via Barton) are condemned again and not the "Bigger Club" (Via Tevez.

Totally agree. It was gross misconduct. Sacking him is certainly 1 of the options. It's not as if we'd get a fortune ( or even a fee) for him. His wages are high and he's unlikely to be available for a sizeable portion of next season.

Agree with that. He's a pretty average player on a lot of money and we can do much better, probably for cheaper. For a supposed "intellectual" the bloke is an idiot and and put himself in a position where the Club can now sack him for gross misconduct etc., which is what they should do. He will always be a liability.

I'm pretty sure they won't PFA and agents hold the cards, I can't see him being sacked too expensive and dodgy.
Football doesn't behave like any other business/company etc.

Plenty of players in lower leagues have been sacked for similar issues. Just because Barton is high profile doesn't exempt him. Mostly players don't get sacked because they have a value which the Club doesn't want to lose out on. That's not the case with Barton. Nobody will want him, so he has no value.

Someone, somewhere will take him. But not for a fee and not on £60k per week. If we don't sack him then the most he can be fined is 2 weeks wages. And we'd need to persuade him to look for a way out that will cost him a fortune in reduced income.
Sacking him has to be done within the law but I believe we have enough grounds.
