Players looked out on their feet.

Reminded me of us at the bottom of our bad patch.

Not panicking yet.

Never knowingly right.

Worrying that they were out of ideas at 0-1.

Hope this is just a case of players want to be on the beach already.

The C4 pundits are as bad as the team! Joe Cole “let’s not forget where we were when Gareth took over - we couldn’t fill Wembley Stadium”.
Ermmm, yeah Joe and now we can’t fill Molineux 😆

The pundits keep saying the players are tired after a long season but that is exactly the same for all European players.

If they are ‘on the beach’ when the World Cup is a short time away and there are squad and team places up for grabs then there is a problem IMO.

Do you think Southgate's assistant is giving it the "Three Cheers for Sallai!" in the dressing room?

I guess box ticking doesn't include regional accents. I didn't hear many. Certainly not from Wolverhapton.

Wouldn't say it was box ticking. More dumbing down. Sadly football can only now be presented by former players who don't really divert from the common denominator.

Surprised there are only two games left till the World Cup. If they were smart, they'd sack him and get a new manager bounce to win the tournament.

That's so true. The C4 coverage is a new low; a real contrast with how they reinvigorated cricket coverage a couple of decades ago.

No idea why they scheduled these games for now - the players need a decent break and the new season will already start soon enough (and yes I know, pampered overpaid modern footballers, etc.)

And in the absence of actual friendlies Southgate needs these games to try other players and systems. Clearly it didn't work last night, so he'll have learnt a few things hopefully.

Anyway it's the cricket season!! How about those England cricketers eh?

I don't care who they have on the panel as long as they offer inciteful and informative comments.
The only one who managed that last night imho was Aluko. Joe and Ashley Cole were terrible (made Michael Owen look good).
The presenter was a bit 'presenting by numbers' as well but she looks very young and I'm guessing will get better with time?... all in all it was a depressing watch.

Come on, we all thought it!!

Agreed. The pundits on ITV 3, Channel 4 etc. are terrible. I don't know whether its because the producers tell them to keep it banal so as not to offend anyone or make anyone feel inferior or whether they really are that bland but is a sad state of affairs.

I don't think they need to tell Joe Cole or Ashley to rein in their intellect for the audience. Both seem to be evidence of reverse Darwinism.

If these games were warm-ups for a summer World Cup I’d be concerned, but as it is I think people are over-reacting massively. Performances have been very poor but this is essentially the same squad who went all the way at the Euros last summer, then back into the Premier League season, most of them also going the distance in various cups, Europe etc.

I’m not remotely surprised that they’ve looked knackered and disinterested at the end of a gruelling season, and in a match that’s barely more than a friendly. Claiming the scalp of bigger nations has clearly motivated Hungary, who are a decent team to begin with, but in other scenarios our draws with Germany and Italy would be very decent results.

I don’t think Southgate is a top-level tactician and I feel like his cautious approach has ultimately cost us in the big games against Croatia and Italy, but he’s also the best manager England have had in 60 years (given the way the global game has changed I think there’s a decent shout for saying he’s the best ever) and anything other than full support until at least after the World Cup would be absurd and self-sabotaging.

That said, I think the very nature of the World Cup being in Qatar is a disgrace, so if we’re rubbish that at least makes it easier to boycott it.

Completely agree - the need to keep boring, inarticulate former players like Joe and Ashley Cole around solely because people recognise them, when more space should be given to insightful, engaging and enjoyable pundits like Eni Aluko, is the worst kind of box-ticking, and pandering to a audience of snowflakes who can’t handle things they find unfamiliar.

Saying Aluko was the best pundit between that lot is the equivalent of being the nicest guy in prison

Yep - Nations League is mainly there to offer more incentives for the "smaller" nations so like you say it's clear Hungary were well up for it.
