I can see where you are coming from, but previous governments have prevented asylum seekers working so that there isn’t an economic incentive to come here. The rationale is that if they can’t work, earn money etc then there is less of an incentive for others to make the trip. There are currently a couple of million out of work, maybe some of the unemployed could do this work. |
The reason a lot of these farms use Eastern European’s is because they can stick them all in on site accommodation then deduct accommodation and food from their wage so they end up paying them about two quid an hour. It’s exploitation really but perfectly legal and we’re all happy that food is cheaper. They’re happy because it’s more than they earn back home and the farms make more profit. They aren’t going to pay to bus in unemployed people from around the country. |  |

There are 70,000 farm vacancies in the summer done by migtrant labour from eastern Europe. UK in their wisdom have treated these honourable grafters with disdain. Immigrants could be given temporary work permits to do work of national importance for 3 years or 6 consequitive summer periods to earn citizenship points. Completion of such work would give a fast track to earning a UK passport. Make one problem an answer to another problem. |

They are paid £9.36 an hour as a minimum for a 39 hour week. If they are provided.with on site accommodation the farmer is allowed to deduct £1.50 per hour. They get a net wage of £7.86 not the £2 or £3 you claim. That is why they come to the UK as that is far more than they can earn at home. They would not bother for £2 per hour. | |
