Corbyn to take part tonight on 18:27 - Jun 1 by Uxbridge | Cameron dodged it last time. Brown did it the time before, ironically after being pestered by Cameron who made a massive play of how the British public deserved it. Funny how his views changed. Anyway, Corbyn belatedly did the right thing in attending. Not a fan of the 6 being there, it should be limited to the 3 parties standing nationally, but the public should get the opportunity to see those standing for election trying to defend their policies and lay out their visions. It's a fascinating election, probably the most so I can recall. Genuinely didn't think it would be, however despite it all Labour are the ones broadly staying on message whilst the Tories capitulate. It's like Borgen all over again... |
Tories will still get a 70 seat majority when Obergruppenfuhrer British Public gets in the ballot box.

Corbyn to take part tonight on 10:53 - Jun 1 by ploppy | I don't like TV debates but watched last night against my better judgement. I've got to say I was appalled. It turned into a shambles of a shouting match full of interruptions and multiple people speaking at the same time. Mishal had absolutely no control. And I'm not sure what the purpose of having an audience is other than to ask the questions. Yes, they clap, but then some element of the audience will clap no matter who said what. Are we judging the mood of the nation by how loud the applause is? Like having a clapometer on Opportunity Knocks? Likewise the jeering from some elements of the audience - what's that about? If you don't like what someone says, don't vote for them. Simple. Or maybe we should have a jeerometer as well. It's becoming a case of loudest wins. So, if we must have TV debates, here's some ideas: 1. Have a moderator who actually exerts control 2. No audience except for those assigned to ask questions - so maybe 10 in total. 3. When it's a politician's turn to speak, as assigned by the moderator, everyone else's mic is turned off. I don't watch Question Time anymore either for pretty much the same reasons. |
Possibly the biggest election that's ever been or will be.. and they're all career point scoring.. We're f*cked whatever happens.. ECB.. what's your insight?.. doomed?

Corbyn to take part tonight on 14:47 - Jun 1 by blueytheblue | Tories centre-right, UKIP far right. All other parties left leaning. ComRes wanted a "representative" audience, well, it's clear Tory, UKIP supporters were outnumbered heavily in there. Given the number o Corbynistas outside the event, pretty clear organised support was there. There was nothing of any substance whatsoever from any of the representatives there. |
The audience was designed to be representative of the parties represented. Five if those veered left/centre left and two to the right. Hence the predominantly left wing supporting audience.

Corbyn to take part tonight on 16:34 - Jun 1 by londonlisa2001 | Gotta love this 'new' politics that Corbyn has introduced. The nicer, caring, sharing type of politics that isn't going to attack individuals. Has a sitting prime minister ever done one of these debates by the way? Because I saw something earlier saying they had all refused to take part, and wasn't sure if that was true? I thought Cameron had done one last time? |
Cameron did one in 2015 and Brown at least two in 2010.

Indeed, however, Greens, SNP, Plaid very much minorities overall. Treating each of the seven as equals and dividing audience that way thus doesn't reflect reality.

By the way, 3.5m watching live so at least you got something right last night on this thread. I thought it'd be higher but it was up against BGT on ITV.

Tbh, that's surprising. I thought people would have turned off due to the clusterfuk that the mass debate was. Those figures would indicate that's the level of political debate people want.

Hypocrisy and lefties goes hand in glove. Maomentum and other affiliates go on and on about media bias, then they say the right are whinging when a clearly stacked audience is on TV. They are ridiculous at times. It's all quite silly because even after the worst political campaign in British history Theresa May will get an increased mandate and the corbynistas will be back to carping from the sidelines with their usual victimhood. Call tories vermin [get a thicker skin], call a lefty a bit daft/idealistic and you're scum. That's the logic my friends.

You have not read the book have you ? You are completely wrong. Michael Foot had one political hero - and that hero was Nye. Hence the dedicated book. And of course the fact he succeeded Nye as MP for Ebbe Vale in 1960 is a total fluke as well. Warra fecking muppet. 🤡
