FIFA World Cup thread. 12:02 - Nov 15 with 133574 views | Snipper | I’m trying to get excited about this World Cup, but to no avail :-((. I’ve just watched Sky Sports World Cup preview with Gary Neville, Jamie Redknapp, Jamie Carragher & Karen Carney. Utterly depressing viewing. Same old, same old. Picking players for the starting XI not playing for their clubs, or totally off form. I’m hoping this thread can get the juices flowing. Do any of you think England have a chance?
FIFA World Cup thread. on 20:31 - Nov 27 with 2450 views | aston_hoop | Mad that Spain can see Iniesta and Xavi retire then have Gavi and Pedri there just ready. Pedri is in the top 3 players in his position in the world and he only turned 20 a couple of days back

We have players like that , Foden, Grealish , Maddison but would rather play Mason Southgate
| And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot
That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles

26 year old James Maddison and 27 year old Jack Grealish are not really comparable in my opinion to an 18 year old and someone who has just turned 20 and play different roles. Foden on the other hand, no excuse for him not to be starting for England

Foden , Saka are 21 Add in Sancho , Harvey Elliot , Bellingham, Cole Palmer , Jacob Ramsey , Emile smith Rowe, There’s some serious talent there it’s just don’t have the right manager Don’t think Spain were all that if truth be told

Saka and Bellingham are starting already, Foden I'm sure will play too in this tournament. The rest are not better than we currently have are they? Sterling produces for England as does Rashford (see the Iran game), so why play Sancho? Who do you drop for Elliott or Cole Palmer (1 Premier League start)? These players are all the next Mason Mount or whoever you want to drop, they look good for the U21s but are not going to suddenly step up and win us the World Cup because of that

FIFA World Cup thread. on 22:22 - Nov 27 with 2214 views | NorthantsHoop | The German football team are like a machine, it is amazing that they grind out results, when it matters. Thought they looked stronger than Spain especially with substitutes later on. Spain let them off the hook a bit, but you can never discount the Germans. I actually felt that England could beat both these teams if we get selection right and take the game to them, we have the quality, but Southgate's risk averse team selections a problem. I know there is a clamour for Foden, but I would like to see a fit Madison given a go as well | | | | Login to get fewer ads

The German football team are like a machine, it is amazing that they grind out results, when it matters. Having been married to a German for 25 years, I might be in a position to shed some light on this. Frau GloryHunter herself was a promising swimmer in her youth, and being trained as part of the pyramid to reach the Olympic team. The training was unforgiving and ruthless. Defeat was simply not an option, and success was barely even acknowledged by the coaches, as it was expected that all participants WOULD win. That is the German way, in sport and in other aspects of life. Not an especially happy society, in many ways.

You mean winning is encouraged? Surely they’ve got it all wrong and our “everything for everyone” approach is right?

When we were in eastern Germany in July I didn’t think it was a particular happy place, and the only people who seemed to be having fun were the drinkers and the drunks.Maybe they’re still to fully leave the iron curtain mentality behind?Even in Berlin the only people who seemed to be enjoying it were the tourists.Liepzig was a bit more of a lively place though.

And sold it afterwards for a profit. Hugely impressive Nation.

Maddison has been injured and Grealish is more of a wide player these days as is Foden for Man City, I'd pick Foden over Mount but to be fair to Southgate he has been picking these attacking players over the last few years and I thought Mount played well in the first game so can see why he went with him again.

And almost every little village in Germany has a proper football ground, with a clubhouse, showers and floodlights. Paid for by the German FA, and sponsored by local businesses. Same with tennis courts.

Made for quite an interesting last round of games, all the groups are quite wide open still.

Dare we say it, but this has been one of the best world cups so far; plenty of excitement, unexpected results, almost everyone in with a shout at some point... and schadenfreude, the gift that keeps on giving, in plentiful supply!
