I’m trying to get excited about this World Cup, but to no avail :-((.
I’ve just watched Sky Sports World Cup preview with Gary Neville, Jamie Redknapp, Jamie Carragher & Karen Carney. Utterly depressing viewing. Same old, same old. Picking players for the starting XI not playing for their clubs, or totally off form.
I’m hoping this thread can get the juices flowing.

Wales were the second-worst team in the finals behind Qatar. Apart from one half against the US, they've stunk the place out. Reckon the US will give the Netherlands a decent match. |
Costa Rica are worse, don't let their fluke win v Japan deceive you. They are 25/1 to beat Germany... Also Tunisia, Australia and others are worse than Wales IMHO.

USA are toothless and the way their negative coach played those last 30 minutes was pathetic.
I know he was missing Pulisic and Sargent who were running in behind but those subs he put on to kill off the game were awful.
A weaker ref could have wilted in the face of all that gamesmanship from Iran and awarded a penalty which if scored was their ticket to advance.
I know Holland are not world beaters but they have pace and strikers which will eleminate USA I believe. |  | | |

I found some of the coverage of Wales quite odd as if they are a non league team in the FA Cup. They were really poor and key players just didn't turn up but all you hear is how well they have done and how well they sing the anthem, compare that to England and all you get is they need to be much better despite walking through another group. I get Wales are a smaller nation and have done well to qualify but it's all so patronising. It should be OK to say they did well to get there but were crap when it mattered |  | | |

I think its a feature of this world cup that some of the older bigger names are finding it difficult to adjust to the extra legs required for the current vogue for pressing compared to say the last world cup. Bale Ramsey and Allen looked like they were running through treacle at times. Arguably what happened to Ronaldo at Manu on a bigger stage. Currently football looks like a younger players game maybe? |  | | |

Yeah, they were dreadful. Okay, England have a far better team and squad but the way they folded in the second half was pretty pathetic. The second goal was absolutely awful.
And even ignoring their cup final last night, they were just as bad against Iran, who are roughly the same world ranking as them. Could have justifiably lost that 4-0.
I don't think the manager helped but was really expecting a bit more from them, particularly last night. Maybe they'd be better binning the older players and trusting in youth, though I can see Bale becoming player-manager for the Euros and becoming a Roy-o Race figure. | | | |

I was a bit disapointed by Wales, still when they are bringing on League 2 players at a World cup it shows the difference in depth.
I didn't know Rob Page was the manager.

With a 48 team World Cup next time it should be easier for Wales,Northern Ireland and even Scotland to qualify.Whether those countries will have the players to compete successfully or not is another thing.

England were excellent again, some real selection headaches for the weekend as Rashford and Foden both very good but Saka also in excellent form and Sterling usually good for England as well. Thought Henderson had a good game as well but Wales were a shambles. Should have gone after England first 10 mins, really put us under pressure but they just stood off us and let us dictate the game, to hear them say they were outstanding first half I'm not sure what game they were watching. They were awful like watching England under Hodgson |

We had some plasterers(from Swansea) round last week doing some free grant insulation work and they gave us some bollocks about Iceland knocking England out of some minor tournament or other and how they were off to Teneriffe to soak up the sun and enjoy the rest of the WC.
