Surely getting a player in part exchange if £2.5m is true.
Nothing reported anywhere about that. I think it's simply because he's out of contract at the end of season and would be gone for free if we don't sell him now.

Why would Russy favour Cullen. He hasnt and cant score,i s outmusled easily ,is not a midfielder-as was selected v Preston and his head drops. Whittaker can and does score
Suggests to me Russy aint what he seems to some
I don’t think Cullen will be starting too many games if Martin gets the players he wants today. He’s already spoken about square pegs and Cullen in midfield (along with Bidwell further forward than him) sprang immediately to mind.
Whittaker would be competing with Piroe I’d guess. I don’t think either of them are the answer as an attacking midfielder or second striker.

I agree, but Connor has already been replaced with Laird. For Grimes we have Downes. Lowe wouldn't get in the team.
I don't think it's as drastic as it seems.
Of course, we need to get some players in, but that was always the case and these sales will strengthen our hand in getting more in.
I'm extremely optimistic we will not be crying tomorrow morning.
Yea but hold on now, fans were moaning that 'Cooper left us high and dry' by his loans, now we've apparently replaced our talisman with a Manchester Utd youngster (who we'll probably only have for 1 season).
Grimes is understandable and Downes I believe is up to it.
Lowe should be getting into the team. I know Martin doesn't want to include him but he's our only established goalscorer we have. The squad is severely lacking goals already.
And for a pittance in the grand scheme of things.
Who are we going to bring in? Loans? I thought Winter and the fans who seemed to blame Cooper for the 'unsustainable' model of using up a full loan quota wanted to move away from this system?

Connor was going anyway. Whether it be now, or for free at the end of the year. Laird seems real quality. Some might moan about "improving" other club's players, but but until we find a replacement for Connor, a loan of such stature is great IMO. Especially as there wasn't even a fee to pay. Joseph did really well there in the couple of games he had, but would you want him being trusted as our main RWB this season?
Lowe shouldn't be getting in the team IMO, sorry mate.
I’m still trying to get my head around the fact that Bournemouth sold Sam Surridge, who done nothing of any significance last season, to Stoke for 5 million, and are signing Jamal Lowe who scored 14 goals for 1.5-2 mil. Am I being stupid in thinking we should be getting A LOT more than that?

If we wanted to keep him, i'm sure we'd have asked for a lot more.
Could this put an end to Cheltenham interest in Joseph?
WOL - "Cheltenham to sign striker Cheltenham are poised to sign Wales Under-21 striker Christian Norton on loan from Stoke City, according to our sister title GloucestershireLive."

Well I don't know, was he going anyway? Have we even offered a new contract? There's been no reports suggesting we have. Laird looks decent but we're 5 games in. So early days. So we haven't paid a fee for Laird?
No I don't want Joseph as the RWB.
14 goals last season suggests otherwise. That's more goals than Cullen, Piroe, Whittaker, Joseph have scored in their whole senior League careers combined.....

I do wonder what is going on I think Winter is a problem
Why leave things so late in the day? Why when people were bemonaing the loss of Ayew who was our top scorer with 17 ( including a few penalties) are we considering selling our second highest scorer Lowe who had 14 and then our third highest score of last season in Roberts and seconf highest number of assists are being offloaded This surely cannot all be down to the manager? I can see the logic in the Roberts move but Lowe? and when were considering loaning out Whittaker who many said dhould have been getting more game time last season and Joseph? I have some sympathy with Martin though also wonder how much of a say he is having?
What quality of replacement have we? What cover should Laird get injured ot r like GIbbs White last season get recalled?

Not according to reports. Man Utd waived any loan fee. We front his wage of about £4k I think. That's a steal. Probably because Utd could see how well he played in Martin's system last year and can see it will improve their player.
I agree with Jamal. He is probably better than Cullen and Whittaker, but at 27 and able to make space and money for someone better, I'd let him go.
I don't really really think Cullen or Whittaker are ready for the first team yet.

This was always going to be a turbulent window for a number of reasons
Last seasons loans and Ayew are gone and needed replacing; Grimes and Roberts are in the last year of their contracts; Routledge finishes. That’s 5 players gone and 2 that are likely to go.
Then to add to the above we have a new manager wanting to change the style of football coming in a week before the season starts and the pre-season itself being disrupted by cancelled matches and add in injuries and Covid. So players are not fully fit and manager has to look at them in competitive games to make decisions.
With Lowe going it could be 8 of last seasons match day squad that won’t be here at the close of the window.

I think the last minute stuff is a problem across the board, not at SCFC. People can't buy someone if they don't know how much money they have to spend. Need to get the player out before any can come in.
As for Lowe. You'd rather keep him than get another striker in?
If Roberts is sold, I'm sure Scott and co will have already lined up a replacement.
Good signing IMO. Trusted by Klopp, albeit when they had almost all their defence injured. Did a decent job in the prem. Obviously rehearsed in playing the ball out from the back.

We needed a CB.
Hopefully has a bit of pace as well as we are short of it at centre back.
