Done is not a stricker tbf he's another player robbing a wage from our club.

Shocking

Robbing?

Let's have it right, he's clearly not the player he was in 2010/11 or 2013-15, but his effort and commitment can never be called into question.

The mistake was in offering him a new deal.

When I was your age, I used to enjoy the odd game of tennis. Or was it golf?

A difficult watch at times, and we seemed to be dropping like flies at regular intervals

Fitness problems and an injury-prone squad

Pompey will be kicking themselves, but at least we created a few chances too

No idea where we go from here if O'Connell, Humphrys & McLaughlin are out for any length of time

Presumably, with McLaughlin's track record there is some sort of Plan B in place for when the inevitable injury occured?

Without recruitment, Plan B will be to switch Keohane to RB and introduce Dunne

Edit: or possibly the CB we have on loan

Hopefully it's pay as you play but I'm not optimistic about that. As already stated the options are Dunne, McNulty and Yeboah.

Shame is commitment won't save us this season.

Plus can't afford passengers if going with small squad so can't have it both ways.

Anyway its moretti time again

I’ve met him a few times, he’s always up for a chat/ photo nice guy , he’s not robbing anyone. He isn’t the player he was , but he was offered a deal, not his fault

McLaughlin injured as well. Lund looks absolutely knackered as well.

Need some more bodies this week.

Loanees? It worked well in seasons past.

The right players need to be available though. It really surprises me that there are still players like Sam Hart and Rhys Bennett knocking around as free agents. They're not world beaters but can do a solid job at our level or lower, you'd have thought that someone would've taken them on by now. Or are their demands just too high?

This is what happens when you try and rush players to full match fitness, an expect them to plays 3 times a week.

Wonder how many injuries clubs who came back early from furlough have had ???

How is the Board responsible for Humphrys injury? We had more injuries then I can ever remember last season ( remember AFC Wimbledon away) after a full pre-season!

Some encouragement from that performance given our poor record v Pompey and that they’re fancied for a top 6 place.
A real shame Humphrys went off as I think If he’d stayed on we would have won. Done let 2 easy chances go begging in that game.

Still a point is a point and we’re not in bottom 4 ;)

Think there's a weird stand off at the minute with both players and clubs holding out for the best deal. Come the deadline day it'll be who blinks first clubs will get desperate and pay a little bit more or players will panic and take a lower wage.

Did I hear that theres a 23 man squad limit as well this season so if you play a youngster for example that's it he's in your 23 for the season and you can't take him out to bring in a loanee for example. Not sure of the full ins and outs.

I’d have Sam Hart based on his past performances for us. He may be shite now though which is why he can’t get a job

True, but by saying he's "robbing a wage", you're implying he's deliberately playing badly, deliberately missing chances like that one today and putting in no effort whatsoever.

Like riddler says, it's not his fault he was given a new deal.

Ah ok that makes more sense. Just looked it up and it's 22 players you can have registered and goes down to 20 next season but as you say doesn't include U21s.

I’m not saying we’d have won if Humphrys had stayed on the pitch but I bet he’d have scored.
For 35 minutes we acquitted ourselves well against a team deemed by most to be one of the better at this level.
But the glaring weakness down the left hand side was ever more apparent today.
Oh for a marauding left footed player like RND, TK or, dare I say it, like Joe Bunney.
I feel sorry for Matty Done. He’s being asked to perform a role that he isn’t capable of doing any more. But it’s not his fault because as a contracted player he’s more or less obliged to be picked.
Might as well play him as left wing back instead of Keohane though although you can’t fault the latter for his effort or his willingness to play almost anywhere.
As for McLaughlin, he spends more time lying on the floor than on his feet. Either he’s a terribly low pain threshold or plain unlucky.
Can’t fault us for effort but that won’t keep us up. An injection of quality is desperately needed.
As is a better use of Morley.

I thought Keohane was superb today. Worked really well down the left especially with Rathbone and we created more down that side than we did the right.

The number of quality players still around is ridiculous.

Marcus Maddison is still a free agent (got to be money and/attitude issues).

One who might be worth a look is Duncan Whatmore. Had a torrid time with injury and was on huge money, but he is a local lad, wants to get his career back on track and is both intelligent and a genuine guy apparently.

Obviously no chance with Maddison but Whatmore could be worth a chat.

Not a bad performance at all, that. We only really lost handle on the game towards the middle of the second half, when our lacking fitness seriously took its toll. Despite that we battled well and Bazunu made a couple of brilliant saves.

Once we’re up to full fitness and we add a few more additions I think we can have a successful season.

When it comes down to the transfer waiting game. I imagine we can possibly get 4 players in at say a total of 10k a week to pluck a figure out from the air.

We'll have left those deals hanging hoping that the players see value as deadline day looms and we get our 4.

If we push early we may waste more budget and get only 2 for the same intended overall cost.

Of course, we could wait and ultimately miss out on all our targets but you'd imagine the clubs are the ones in a position of strength on this and not worth jeopardising a whole seasons budget for the sake of a few weeks wait.

Never said it was board fault for Humpries injury.
Its the board fault that we are the most under prepared team in league 1. Its the club fault that we where the last club out of furlough in league 1. Look at our fitness levels compared now to rest of league 1 we are weeks behide teams in league 1, but the board still expect our small squad to match them at this early stage.
This could/will cost us big time come May.

He is robbing a wage hes not a league 1 footballer, actually he's not a league player anymore ,shame to say it but he's a passenger we can't afford to have this season especially being one of our the top earners.

Don't blame him for taking the contract through,

I wasn’t having a go at Jimmy Keohane. My cousin in Devon tells me that he was decent midfield player at Exeter yet he’s ended up in the back four with Dale through necessity. He’s a neat, skilful footballer.
It’s horses for courses though and we need a naturally left footed player to give some oomph down that flank.

We absolutely do. Keohane is a hard worker and an adequate plug for that position on a limited basis, but is certainly not a long-term solution if we have aspirations of staying up. You want your full/wing back to take a man on and whip in crosses or cut in and provide a threat that way. While Keohane does that occasionally, he invariably plays the ball backwards.

I thought that was a good performance. Sure, we rode our luck at times, but we also had some excellent chances.

Positives:

Bazunu didn’t get punished for mistakes and made some crucial saves, that will hopefully give him confidence and much needed experience to aid decision making. He looks like a very good shot stopper.
McLaughlin looked like a run in the team is allowing us to see his quality, he offers so much when fully fit*
Keohane had one of his best games for the club. He ‘does a job’ in a lot of positions but he even offered something going forward today.
The midfield looked like a proper unit. Lund showed signs of the class player that he is.

Negatives:

The injuries. Humphrys and O’Connell are absolutely key. Just keep everything crossed for a good prognosis. If anything, EOC’s injury looked worse. McLaughlin looks to have done his hamstring. Bad enough on its own, but with his history of niggling injuries it’s a case of “we knew what we were getting into’.

Done. Always gives 100% but that’s not enough when you are missing chances like those today. He’s not offering anything, in fact he’s wasting a place on the pitch that somebody else could be filling. I never thought I’d prefer Calvin or even Tavares over anybody, but that’s where Done’s performances have left me feeling. It’s not his fault he was offered a two year deal, but it’s BBM’s biggest mistake of his reign.

The board MUST dig deep if we are serious about staying in League One. They did with Humphrys when we really needed it, but we need some bodies in sharpish. I suspect we’re waiting on loan targets becoming available, but we’re in need of some permanent signings too.
