... their win over Huddersfield in the FA Cup tonight means our scheduled league fixture against them on 30th November will now have to be rearranged, regardless of our result tomorrow.
Not Dale connected, but football followers of the 70s and 80s will clearly remember the balding pate of Middlesbrough and Southampton's David Armstrong, who has sadly died today, age 67.
He was a regular in my Panini sticker albums and often pops up on episodes of The Big Match Revisited these days, chugging through the Ayresome Park mud to score a crucial equaliser past someone like Peter Shilton.
Armstrong was an excellent player, who looked nothing like a footballer, and his passing today brings back memories of when I first started to get into the game.
Actually, though, there is a Dale connection, as Armstrong was unknowingly involved in a very famous EGP skit about our former Commercial Manager, Steve Walmsley, who insisted on getting himself on every team photo!
Can anyone recall any other late postponements of away games, similar to yesterday, when fans were already at the ground?
Mansfield in Feb 1996 was a very late call off, as were the infamous Wycombe trips in 1993/94, but are there any others from the olden days (KidBingo, any games from the 1920s, for example?) that people can remember?
Just a heads up that Northern Rail have put over one million advance single train tickets on sale for £1 from 6th September to 22nd October, which covers the Bradford away game on 2nd October.
