RIP Fidel on 19:08 - Nov 29 by Groo | Aye, Glyndwr wrote the text book on how to defend against a bombing raid. Were you dropped on your head as a baby, just wondering. |
There is more to Glyndwrs military tactics that Castro so admired than the fact there was no bombing raids by plane in his day.

RIP Fidel on 18:47 - Nov 29 by trampie | One has to wonder whether it was the kicking the Yanks took at the Bay of Pigs that prevented them from carrying out a full scale invasion or that Castro had studied Glyndwrs guerrilla tactics on how to fight a superpower neighbour that deterred them ? |
Do keep talking. The Bay of Pigs was a shambles because the CIA effectively launched the invasion without full commitment from the White House. The attack was launched, went tits up, Kennedy refused to provide air support and most insurgents were either shot or taken prisoner. It was a huge debacle and a public embarrassment for the Kennedy White House. After taking public responsibility for the shambles, Kennedy basically backed Allen Dulles, into a corner and gladly accepted his resignation. There was no public support whatsoever for an invasion of Cuba after the Bay of Pigs and those responsible for Black Ops in the Gulf were no longer in post. But no, I'm sure the USA just bawked at the challenge thrown down by the mighty Casto after they say all the books he'd been reading courtosey of the free Wales army. Actually no, what you're implying is total sh*t as usual. Typical perverse and detached view of reality you'd come to expect from planet swans resident cyber nat.

It was said that the Yanks wanted the Brigade 2506 to hold the beach head for a few days, maybe a week and then the Yanks would try and spin it to the World that they were ex pats trying to take their country back from a dictator and the Good Old US of A was going in to help the freedom fighters, but it didn't work the Yankee backed force was well beaten. The Brits tried to tell the Yanks that British intelligence had gathered information that the Cuban people were solidly behind Castro and would fight for him and their country to the last [perhaps they told them that they knew Welsh guerrilla tactics and not to go there, lol]. Castro was said to have voted Glyndwr as the greatest person of the millennium, don't underestimate the influence Glyndwr tactics had on Castro.

You do realise that the USA wasn't put off from bombing Cuba right? It was an option that was very much on the table. That was kind of the point of the Cuban missile crisis. You're talking utter nonsense because you'd like to believe that Castro was such a great man because he relied heavily on the teachings of Glyndwr. Much like the druids and the bard and all the other nonsense nats love to believe in, you've got nothing to back up your erroneous claims.

RIP Fidel on 01:09 - Nov 27 by Tummer_from_Texas | Linked that earlier. Ironically that Herald blog about the Kaepernick/Castro controversy was published online just hours before the tyrant died. Always blew my mind how many thousands of Cubans have been willing to take their chances, paddling 90 miles to Florida on home made rafts in shark-infested water, just to escape. The exact number will never be known of course, since so many don't make it. |
Maybe you should look up the Cuban Adjustment Act to see why that was so tempting to some Cubans versus other Carribean and Latin American countries. Let's not get knowledge get in the way of anything though.

It's a third world country so yes, many would like to get to the US to not be in a third world country. Ironic considering the US was one of the major reasons for this. Cuba should always be compared to other Latin American countries when it comes to economy, human rights etc. It comes out pretty well when compared that way.

They would not have been able to spin their story to the World with mass bombings of civilians, also they would have given the game away that the invasion had started [although the Cubans knew it was coming and everyone including the public was ready to fight the imperialists], even going after airfields was risky for the Yanks as Cuban fighter pilots were sleeping in hammocks under the wings of their fighter planes so not to get taken out on the ground, they would have been airborne as soon as the round the clock spotters had sighted the enemy and then they would have given the Yankee bombers all they could have handle. Castro called Glyndwr “the World’s first guerrilla leader”, Castro seen his people as being oppressed by an imperialist neighbour, the parallels are obvious, they recon he voted for Glyndwr in the Millennium poll but there again i've seen it said that so did Yeltsin and Clinton, bet Castro went first choice and they went third choice after a couple of their own countrymen, lol.

RIP Fidel on 22:46 - Nov 30 with 1638 views | jackrabbit | Only just found this thread, although I suspected that there was one. 6 pages of mostly fawning adulation for a deluded thug who murdered and imprisoned thousands of his own people. Of course later on he ensured that he provided the very best of health care and education on those he didn't murder. The equivalent of that other famous murderer, Mussolini making the trains run on time. It's a tragedy that these very same people who are drooling over him on here couldn't have been born at a different time and in that very different place so that they could have enjoyed all the benificence of that paradise in the sun. Funny that there were never reports of exiled Cubans piling into unseaworthy vessels and making the shark-infested opposite journey to escape the clutches of Uncle Sam? Tim Stanley refers to Cuba as 'North Korea with rum'. Pretty accurate. Education? Healthcare? - very important and very nice. Freedom? - priceless.
