Ins & Outs + Squad Updates and Transfer links on 16:52 - Aug 14 by Kerouac | The right position, experienced BUT... he has barely played in the last 2 seasons, smacks of bargain bucket but I hope he does well if he joins. |
Yep - Knee surgery for ligament damage August 2018, on crutches for 6 months then broke bones in foot and tore a ligament in April 2019. 2 serious long term injuries. Played in 22 League games last season but unsurprisingly only 5 the season before. If he gets through the medical I can see him being rotated with Fulton.

Ins & Outs + Squad Updates and Transfer links on 15:22 - Aug 14 by dobjack2 | Korey Smith defensive midfielder 29 released by Bristol City allegedly having a medical at Fairwood. |
At last what we’ve missed for YEARS - a proper CDM. I don’t care if he’s hardly played. I wouldn’t care if he had one leg!

What makes him more a "proper" defensive midfielder than Grimes? Is it just that he doesn't score or create? Even before his injuries he was put in half the tackles, blocks, clearances etc. that Grimes does.

Stats eh. Perhaps Grimes needs to make more tackles because he is often out of position? It could mean our ball retention is so bad it keeps coming back through the middle at us. Grimes is one footed and not a great distributor or ball carrier.

Ins & Outs + Squad Updates and Transfer links on 23:11 - Aug 15 with 3847 views | Highjack | For what it’s worth I think Grimes is very good for this level but he’s been playing within himself this season, don’t know if it’s the captaincy weighing him down or the system etc. I’d like to see him further forward.

By "not a great" you mean not a PL star or what? There's not many better at this level at what he does at the base of midfield. Even Leon made mistakes here and there (understand that the myth of Leon never ever did, mind). Smith's in for a rough time if Grimes' contribution isn't considered good enough. He's not a ball-carrier either. Stats don't show the whole picture but come on, you're really going to try to twist being the most prolific tackler in the division as a negative? | | | | Login to get fewer ads

For what it’s worth I do rate Grimes as a player - no doubt about that. He is more suited to a role further forward though and just isn’t a natural CDM. That’s not his fault, it’s just that he’s a square peg trying to fit into a round hole. I’d much rather release Byers and keep Grimes. If there’s a negative I could apply to Grimes in that position it would be he’s not vocal enough and lacks physical presence. [Post edited 16 Aug 2020 10:38]

With Brewster depends on what Klopp thinks is best for him: Limited game time but Squad development at Liverpool Probably limited game time at another premier club More game time in championship. Even if he decides on the latter, no guarantees it would be with us. Our management team will know all of this and be looking at options.

Agreed. If he goes to the Championship it will be to a club where he will be nurtured and coached correctly, where he will have players around him who can bring the best out of him and support his development. If I was Brewster, I would rather go to the Championship and have a regular game than a PL team where I would warm the bench if I was lucky.

Depends which PL team it is. If he goes somewhere like Leeds he’ll probably be competing for a place with someone like Patrick Bamford. There’s only one winner there.

To me it suggests Cooper has little self belief that he can work with adults.

To me it suggests that we see bringing on youngsters with Premier Clubs as a way of improving the quality of the squad in the short term without significant outlay of money. Same glass different way of looking at it. It will be interesting how this strategy affects the future of the academy and our own youngsters.
Ins & Outs + Squad Updates and Transfer links on 23:08 - Aug 23 with 2097 views | Kerouac | As the squad begins to take shape it strikes me that we should release or sell the following 4/5 players; - Declan John - Nathan Dyer - Barrie McKay - Joel Asoro - I'd also consider selling Peterson as I don't believe he is good enough (would love to be proved wrong though) and should be replaced by Jamal Lowe. ...and bring in the following; - 2 x Centre-backs, 1 permanent and experienced, plus 1 youngster on loan (Guehi if possible) - 1 x Left-back (ideally somebody on a free that can give Bidwell a run for his money) - 1 x Winger/Utility Forward - Jamal Lowe - 1 x Striker (An exciting young talent on loan) I know, wishful thinking, but if we could do something like this I believe we will have a good chance next season.
