Looks like a fire sale really doesnt it?

Even more laughable given they want £75m for Lukaku

Our second team smashed west Ham 4-1 at the end of last season. I'd say that means our squad is pretty competitive. If we didnt make another signing I still say we stay up.

I hope your optimism is well founded, My glass half full sees a train wreck.

Mind you on the positive side it means I'm rarely disappointed and often pleasantly surprised.

With current squad be very lucky to finish 17th. No quality and no strength in depth

Where does this 'fire sale' come from? Do you know what a fire sale means or have you just plucked it from somebody else's post and thought it sounded cool?

Good business for Everton if they sell Stones for £50 million and get Ash for £10 million.

Good for business for us if Ash goes for £10 million and Amat shows the form he had last season.

Despite the above, I find it very worrying that the owners are allowing this to happen without placating the fans with a marquee signing.

I think that in this context it's safe to say that it is the American sports definition rather than the sale of fire damaged goods at reduced prices.

A fire sale is when you sell your assets for considerably less than they are worth.
Ie selling Ash for 10 prob worth 15 in current market Ayew 20 worth about 30.
So yes if they go for them prices with the squad already stretched so late in the window a fire sale is accurate..

I wouldn't say 10M for a 32 year old CH is heavily discounted, personally.

Nor me, to be fair its relatively ok money.

But it seems the traffic is all one way. Underpriced playing assets out, overpriced dross being linked with nothing actually coming in. My worry is that this is what they did at DC United (as well as ignoring supporters groups and generally staying well out of the limelight)

Not if it's reinvested sensibly in the team. I'm not holding my breath.

No it's the American sports definition of replacing well paid experienced players (veterans) by cheaper less experienced and therefore less well paid players from minor leagues.

The term comes from the perception that the team is trying to get rid of all of its players. Not necessarily selling them at an undervalue.

We all knew this would happen, why anyone is shocked is beyond me.

""Although I cannot promise or predict the future, I can guarantee one thing - the current board of directors will always fight, as we have done over the last 12 years, to work together as one with the Supporters Trust to make 100% sure that Swansea City football club remains the number one priority in all our thoughts and in every decision we make."

With Gomis and (possibly) Williams leaving there seems to be a purge of high wage earners.
Ayew is another so I fear he's as good as gone.

I thought Ash had ambitions of Champions League football.. not mid table plodders like Everton mun..

I hope someone comes in for a stupid amount for Taylor.. like 10 million.

and Monk takes Rangel, Britton, Emnes and Tremmel to Leeds for 5 million.

The awkward moment when a Welsh Club become the Champions of England.. shh The Swansea Way.. To upset the odds.

What is happening so far that leads you too believe that we are selling our assets to avoid bankruptcy? Because that's what a 'fire sale' means initially.

Nothing to do with bankruptcy at all.

These guys are VC. They will strip down costs, remove all high earners and anyone who isnt absolutely necessary off the wage bill, cash in on assets the best they can and replace with cheaper alternatives. Do the bare minimum to keep their investment afloat while pocketing the surplus. Throw in increased commerical revenues and bingo.

Very much an American sports concept, difference being here there is relegation.
