ok well i can't blame the welsh team itself but something isnt right.
The whole situation is a joke.

This is the greatest season there could ever be for Welsh football to start growing. The FAW should really start capitalizing on the fact that Wales has two major teams in the premier league and get everyone together to sort out the WPL. Make it into a league which people can be proud of.
as for the national team? why play top players? Give the national team positions to players in the WPL. why not? we may get thumped 8-0, but who cares, because we wont qualify for anything as it stands anyway.
time to shake things up.

I don't think Bale is really injured though is he? More that he's recovering from injury and has no match fitness.
I can see why he didn't play him. If he'd gone on that cabbage patch of a pitch and gotten injured, after not kicking a ball so far this season, then I doubt Real Madrid would have been happy. The eyes of the world would have been on him and it would have been even more negative press. It would have been a bad start to any football relationship between Wales and Real Madrid and we'd soon have another Giggs situation.
I don't know why he was on the bench in the first place though. I know Bale had apparently requested to be with the squad and train etc so maybe he asked to sit on the bench? Who knows. If not, then It was a bit of a pointless act.

I don't really want to start comparing Wales to countries of similar size to be honest! I totally understand what you're saying and you did make me smile with your comments around Bendtner.
I guess what I am saying, and i'll still say the same thing, is that when Wales have their best 11 out on the field, we do perform well. It's just very rarely it happens. It's all about consistency for me. Gary Speed had a lot of flack when he first took over. After a while, and the more continuity in the team selection, we started to win games.
I am not saying Coleman is the greatest manager around, and I would love Gary Speed to still be here and in charge of the side, but he's not. After his death, the Wales job became even more difficult. There was always going to be a bit of a slump after that. I personally think that by showing Coleman that the FAW are behind him, the players will get the same message and hopefully will realise that they all need to pull together in the same direction. The fans included.
If it doesn't work out, and we finish below where we expect in the next qualifiers then we'll see what happens. We were drawn as the worst possible team in this current group, so to have a chance of finishing 3rd out of 6th is very good IMO. We are expected to finish 6th and 5th at a push. |
I agree on your point about consistency. It's an important parameter. And managers that want to win will likely try to improve on that. As you said yourself. Under Gary Speed who was a good manager there was more consistency.
Question is, will a manager who's not a winner be able to recognize which parameters are important for winning? And will he fight for his ability to follow a winning strategy? Or will he prefer to be diplomatic and not cause controversy?
Since you are suggesting a winning strategy, logic dictates that chances are very slim that a manager with a history of loosing will follow them. But we'll see. It seems Coleman is gonna stick around for a while. So we'll know in about 3 years. My guess is that he's probably a plessant guy who doesn't put too many dificult demands on the FA and the clubs. Indeed, mate. That's all I ask - a bit of continuity and we'll see where we are after the next qualifiers. It would be nice if we could all get along at Wales games too. And if we can actually get the Millennium full again for home games and make home advantage count. I doubt Serbia will be frightened about going to a half-empty Cardiff Legoland tonight.
There's a whole lot more problems with the FAW than the manger of the national side. So many things need to change off the pitch and in the grass roots of Welsh football. This is why I'd rather not compare Wales to country's of similar size and population. It's not just about that. | |
