Public sector pay 09:10 - Dec 11 with 9103 views | raynor94 | Government recommending 2.8% rise, with inflation running at 2.6 %. Will be interesting to see what the pay review body say, but this looks like a collision course for the government

Public sector pay on 12:07 - Dec 14 with 784 views | raynor94 | I find some of the views on here so sad, as you say all the best laid plans can go wrong, and I really feel sorry for pensioners who are just above the threshold. And it certainly isn't going to be a very Merry Christmas for a lot of Tata workers. I worked there for 42 years, but I always remember 1980 when I avoided redundancy by the skin of my teeth. There for the grace of God go I

Public sector pay on 12:23 - Dec 14 with 756 views | Gwyn737 | Does that bank of mum and dad get the triple lock pension 😉
Public sector pay on 12:26 - Dec 14 with 746 views | Whiterockin | No but it rises with inflation
Public sector pay on 12:49 - Dec 14 with 693 views | raynor94 | How do you think people of my age managed, I was married had 2 children a mortgage and a wife who didn't work to fetch up the children. No child care in those days, at one time I was on strike for 13 weeks, no food banks in those days. It does amuse me how some of you on here think they were halcyon days

Public sector pay on 19:49 - Dec 14 with 560 views | controversial_jack | You were fortunate to get a mortgage on one persons wages, that's unlikely to happen today
Public sector pay on 20:10 - Dec 14 with 541 views | raynor94 | Did you have one ? Why I posted earlier in the thread plenty of properties I Swansea available for around 100k, my first property was a real doer upper, but family and friends helped, and we moved on. Far to many want something for nothing these days, or lease a look at me Audi

Public sector pay on 20:49 - Dec 14 with 517 views | Luther27 | It’s worrying that some of the posters who aren’t yet at pensionable age can’t see their own future….a future where their own parents who worked many years to probably own their own property…their future inheritance….may have to sell it to fund what’s left of their future. Another interesting read among the thread is….and I’m guessing here….retired people today paid their parents pension…and it appears some of the youngsters are not in favour of paying for the triple loc increase . Well take a look over your shoulders guys because your kids don’t appear to want to work to fund yours plus you’ve lost your inheritance.
Public sector pay on 20:53 - Dec 14 with 507 views | controversial_jack | I did in 86 and worked my nuts off doing it up and working shifts at the same time. It was very tough at the time. I was also fortunate to be on decent enough wages to get a mortgage
Public sector pay on 20:54 - Dec 14 with 507 views | raynor94 | So how have you managed with your 3 properties?

Public sector pay on 21:23 - Dec 14 with 483 views | SullutaCreturned | The country is bankrupt because of totally inept, utterly useless politicians who have made a massive mess of the public finances. The tax burden is the highest it's ever been and yet there is still no money? There's plenty of money for politicians and their expenses though. Take my local area, Skewen, we have a community council and a Mayor for a village of 6-7000, seriously? In Wales we have 22 LAC's for a population of less than 4 million and a devolved government determined to increase the Senedd financial burden on us by more than 50%. The UK is broke and has to borrow money to pay it's bills and all 4 members of the union are broke too yet we keep on spending money on......well what exactly? Not where it's needed most apparently but on where politicians think it should gp. One thing is certain, the UK is not bankrupt because of the state pension or those who deserve to be paid it.
Public sector pay on 21:36 - Dec 14 with 467 views | Scotia | I can't disagree with much of that. We have too many politicians and the vast majority aren't up to the task. Unfortunately the higher up the political pole the less in touch they are with the public. Drakeford was a prime example of this. Totally and utterly out of touch with the people who voted for him. But then look at the circus around electing his successor. It's taken a change in speed limit to engage most people, and that's probably the least of his mess ups. His Draconian COVID rules saw him increase his vote! I've said before but unfortunately there are enough Labour activists and members in Wales to give them carte blanche to do what they want. The other, and more important, side of the coin is the 50+% of people who don't vote at all. Get them out to vote and things will change, but that's exactly why the politicians don't want them to.
Public sector pay on 21:40 - Dec 14 with 464 views | majorraglan | There are 27 x two or more bedroom properties available in Swansea under £100k, only 12 are freehold properties, some are park homes (unmortgagable) and some are or will be cash only as they are not mortgageable etc because of the state their in - no kitchen etc etc or lots of remedial work which means lenders generally wont touch them. There are 13 leasehold properties, 6 are holiday chalets down Gower, some of the remaining properties have lengthy leases, but some have less than a 100 years left which means some lenders won’t lend against the property, they also demand higher deposits and interest rates are higher. It’s far from a rosy picture and it’s much harder for my kids to get on the property market than it was for me 35 years ago.
Public sector pay on 22:06 - Dec 14 with 432 views | Scotia | I bought my first house on Llangyfelach Road for £34000 in 2001. I was earning about £14k a year relatively fresh out of university. It was a total doer upper. That same house has just sold for £95000 after being trashed in the years since, by tennants I assume. It's a doer upper again. Sorry. It's £110k and still for sale. I'm not surprised. https://www.zoopla.co.uk/for-sale/details/68594472/?search_identifier=70d961e1bb The job I was in when I bought that house now pays £23k pa. I couldn't afford to buy that house now [Post edited 14 Dec 22:09]

Public sector pay on 22:16 - Dec 14 with 423 views | raynor94 | As night follows day, 100k was a rough example, are your kids in employment, are they married or in a relationship? I'm glad I was able to get you to do some research, nobody is saying it's easier, but people are far to choosier these days, and not willing to start at the bottom. Out of curiosity where was your first property 35 years ago?

Public sector pay on 22:25 - Dec 14 with 399 views | JACKMANANDBOY | I have to laugh at some people's reasoning. For example, those that argue for an increase in inheritance tax because older people have benefitted from house price inflation don't seem to realise it is the generation below that lose out not the dead person.

Public sector pay on 22:54 - Dec 14 with 365 views | majorraglan | Both my kids are single and both work. One recently graduated from Uni and has loads of debt, the other is an apprentice and went straight in to work from school. My first house was a terraced house in Neath Port Talbot, bought it knowing it needed work but was naive and ended up gutting the place. Had to make do with second hand furniture and I was lucky my parents bought my living room and stair carpet. [Post edited 14 Dec 23:09]

Public sector pay on 23:10 - Dec 14 with 345 views | Scotia | I totally forgot about student debt. I didn't start paying that back for a few years and my debt was tiny compared to graduates nowadays. It's crippling for some people.
Public sector pay on 23:32 - Dec 14 with 320 views | majorraglan | My eldest has debts north of 50k, tuition fees were around £9k per year, then there’s living expenses for rent etc rtc. The eldest is quite tight when it comes to money and his lifestyle was frugal but he’s still got massive debts. The current rate of interest on student loans is around 7%, what hope have a lot of kids got!
Public sector pay on 23:39 - Dec 14 with 301 views | raynor94 | I had just finished my apprenticeship when I bought my first house, oh and I did a bit of googling the house I bought for 40 k in 1988 works out at 134 k now, and that house is on the market now for 200k for a bit of context.
