With the spread of this illness what are the chances of games getting called postponed and the season not being completed.....

What would the financial knock on effect be to lower league clubs.....

My all time favourite Dale player Mr Lyndon Symmonds

It was good to hear Sir Keir Starmer, in his speech following being elected as the new Labour leader, state that he will seek to work constructively with the government; challenging where necessary, but not seeking to oppose for the sake of opposition or score party political points for the sake of it, i.e. to work in all our best interests

The government in turn is meeting with leaders of all the other main parties to engage them in the effort to tackle the crisis

It's also been good to see that Sir Keir's principled remarks are now being (by and large) followed on this messageboard. Long may it continue

Yes indeed. I liked this bit:

"We will shine a torch on critical issues and where we see mistakes or faltering government or things not happening as quickly as they should we'll challenge that and call that out."

I hope he calls out the disappearance of alleged bully Priti Patel who, as Home Secretary, should be all over this staying at HOME message.

I don't doubt that the appearances on the daily Downing St update should be shared between the senior members of the government, and you're right, the only absence so far has been Priti Patel

I'm pretty sure however, that SKS will have more pressing objectives in the days and weeks ahead, including tackling the bullying of Jews culture among his own ranks

(There you go, just needs one person to unleash their party political fury and see what happens?)

Let's put it back in the "we've all got better things to think about" box, eh?

She's not called Pritti Vacant for nothing. Maybe she's still in Israel on secret government business ?

In the surreal world we live in, I find it strangely comforting that a virus which has killed over 60,000 people worldwide gets 25 pages on here, and yet the thread on a dead football club gets 298 pages. It just shows us how big bury were!

Some of the comments on Twitter are a disgrace, #bekind doesn't apply to people who hold difference views than them.

They really are showing their true colours

I could be wrong but I’m not sure you go into intensive care as a precaution.

Not sure BDM, am no expert myself. I do find it astonishing that he has not been under constant nursing and supervision earlier. Mind you we only know wheat we are told!

I wasn't sure Thacks wasn't being a bit tic since the 'precaution' messaging can often be an attempt to play things down

In this instance, and with his oxygen levels apparently taking a dip, the precaution would be to ensure he's got immediate access to more invasive lung assistance should it be required. If an ICU bed wasn't available at the point of further deterioration, that would very quickly become life-threatening. It's to be hoped he's able to pick up again without more invasive treatment, but either way its likely to be some time before he's fully able to take up the reins again

Can't imagine he'd be allowed to "block" an NHS bed if he didn't need it - especially one in ICU. He lives only 1m from the hospital, so not long in an ambulance. If he's in an ICU bed, my guess (and I'm no expert either) is he's there because he absolutely has to be. Assuming he does make it out again, he'll respect the NHS like few other PMs before him.

It does say in the FT that he was moved into intensive care as a "precaution" should his condition deteriorate and require ventilation.

There's one thing for sure he's not in a very good way at all.

Since this virus appeared, what's become apparent is that if patients don't recover spontaneously after 5/7 days, their immune response becomes overstimulated leading to huge amounts of cells and fluids congregating in the lungs

Once that takes hold, even ventilation can be inadequate, but i hasten to add that doesn't mean that's where BJ is heading

A relative of mine is a dedicated manager for a cv Ward, I spoke to her last week and the ppe was shocking, the risk they put themselves under is crazy.

What really stood out, from someone who has been working for the nhs for 30 years plus ( them not me) is they were genuinely really scared, the speed it can attack someone stable to basically causing a fatality they said was nothing she had ever seen.

Any bellends still thinking it won’t affect them and flouting the advice need a serious kick up the arse!

Indeed

From what i can gather, the supply chains have had to be overhauled in short order to get the ppe to the pressure points on the front line, and whilst it's still not right it's a lot better than it was even a week or so ago

The same with testing, which had been under the direct control of Public Health England, but government ministers have had to take it out of their hands to push for private labs and university facilities to be enlisted - all the while, not being able to be critical of PHE since that's just not a good look, but getting it in the neck from journalists and others which goes with the territory

The full facts will out, one day when this is over

You’ve provided an opinion as to what’s happened re supplies and testing and then told us the full facts will be outed. Surely it would be better to wait for the full facts to be established prior to forming and providing your opinion? Also, the biggest journalistic critics of the government have been its most ardent supporters.
You’re starting off from the premise that the government has ultimately taken the best course of action and is somehow beyond reproach. They may or may not have taken the best course of action but surely you need the full facts to establish that?
A person who approaches such a question from this premise is just the same as someone who approaches it from a leftist perspective that no matter what a Tory government does it will be wrong. It’s an opinion formed from political preference/prejudice rather than facts.
