Although it's a couple of weeks old, I don't remember seeing this article posted here (sorry if it was already posted).
It's interesting for a number of reasons:
1) It looks at what different members of the board thought of Hughes.
2) It says the team selection for Manchester United was made by Hughes.
3) It says Redknapp can buy, but would have to sell to buy.
4) It puts the spending in perspective by comparing it to Southampton's. |  |

FFS how many people need to take the blame for signing players some say the chair man some say the manager ? If the chairman told a potential manager it's me that signs the players we would never get the top manager you want ,does anybody think H would have come on those terms ? Top managers don't have other people making their signings . The team has definitely been a failure, but with Harry now in charge we might have a chance of saving our season.
As far as I know, the youth team has been invested in, we're supposed to have a new training ground soon and maybe a new stadium will be announced.
I think it's too early to start slagging the bloke off, Rome wasn't built in a day. |
I agree with this. TF has made mistakes for sure, but his intentions have been good and hopefully he will stick with us and learn from mistakes. There is an infrastructure being invested in for the future (which we will hopefully have) which shows long term vision.
Also, I can't help but wonder whether we would have been in a better position had we not come up when we did. We got promoted without being the best team and the team we came up with did need radically changing. If we had the extra season then maybe we would have been in a position more akin to Norwich where they had a TEAM that they could build on. We did need wholesale changes in my view and it was the catchup game that we had to play which led to the whole MH episode and has led us to where we are now. I |  |

2. Dave (who I'm sure is more than capable of fighting his own battles) did not state that "we all wanted MH". Read what he said again and see whether you think an apology might be in order.

I expect the chairman to question signings.
Should have asked why are we signing Andy Johnson who is always injured? Why haven't we sorted out the defence? Why do we have two goal keepers on massive wages? Why are we spending £9m on a player who no one has heard of? Why do you want me to spend £9m on a defender who is always injured. Why did we lose 5-0 to Swansea on the opening game of the season? |

Of course TF must shoulder some of the blame for our demise but only a small amount of the blame.
He had given/backed MH the buying power to keep us in this division and It painfully hasn't worked, he has relied on MHs so called Premier league knowledge of players and therein lies the problem.
MH and the players he brought in are the problem, for what It's worth I wouldn't have been pissed off or surprised If MH had been sacked within a week of us surving last season, our last 5 home wins were acheived with a fair amount of luck and hard work, sadly the luck and hard work never kicked on this season.
The writing was on the wall there and then I'm afraid.

Tony Fernandes has shown that being a successful businessman doesn't necessarily make you a successful football chairman.
It's ok when you have a bottomless pit of money to spend like Chelsea and Man City and you can keep signing the best players in the world. We need a chairman who is prudent, understands football and what makes a team.

For what its worth, I don't think TF has done much wrong at all. And I didn't think that was much wrong with most of the signings made either.
It was commonly agreed on here that we had a decentish first XI but no squad depth. I felt a lot of the older players brought in were meant to provide good Prem experience without necessarily being regular starters. And the arrival of good quality youngsters like Mbia, Diakite, Hoilett, Fabio and Granero should have been the basis of a comfortable top ten team. Going back to pre season I did feel we were short of another RB, CB and striker and said so at the time, but this really should not have been an excuse to avoid a season of progress.
The only real risk was the squad not gelling, which was a possibility under a manager whose teams have a record of being slow starters. Sadly it would appear that's exactly what has happened.

Interesting article. I don't think we actually spent £14m, it was closer to £12m, but it's the wages that have been the issue.
The problem is bringing in names like Granero and Mbia and expecting them to immediately adopt to the Prem, and that they would be experienced enough at this kind of level to deal with the lowly position. Also bringing in Park seemed like a great idea but as so often happens, when players leave Man U it's because Ferguson (wise owl that he is) sees the players as past their best.
On the upside, Harry is already showing he's a good man manager, which we always knew. It appears that Mark Hughes was extremely poor at communicating with the players, to the point of being flippant and aloof.
The biggest mistakes here have been Tony being far too loyal to Hughes, far too ambitious from the off and not slowing it down to get 'the product' right, the team and that comes piece by piece, not by magic wand wholesale change. Get 'the product' right, you can get 'the brand' right and all the commercial merchandise assets after that.
Brand QPR only works if team QPR is sensibly constructed over time. |  |

He has been nothing but supportive to the manager, players and fans of OUR football club. Taarabt even said in an interview after the West Ham game he is the best chairman he has seen in football as he integrates with the players.
I, for one, do not believe he has left it too late to sack Hughes. Hughes had all summer to sign players. He was given ample money and time to sign players he wanted to. Yet he signed mercenaries who couldn't give 2 hoots about the club. That is not down to the chairman. That is down the manager. Who then motivates the players and sets out how they will play in each game.
Briatore stuck his massive beak into team affairs and everyone was seething when he did that. When our current chairman provides money towards the team, training ground and a potential new stadium and has nothing to do with picking the team some of our "fans" say that is not enough!!!!
At the end of the day it is down to the players and manager to pick up those precious 3 points and not the chairman.
We will be here long after those mercenaries will be and even Harry but I will back Harry to the hilt to get us out of this complete mess and I believe he will!

It isn't the same thing at all. I expect that c*nt Redknapp to achieve better performances from the team, but I don't want him within a million miles of the club, it makes me cringe thinking of him being here.
My support for MH, as I said on many occasions, was based on supporting TF's desire for long term stability at the club, which I think is the best way forward for us. I didn't much like MH as a person, but I could see that sacking him would leave us in exactly the position we are now, with a short term managerial appointment, a further round revolving door transfers in January, and again once Redknapp goes.

Yes, I think all Tony is guilty of is a bit of blind loyalty. He's paid a heavy price but he's the kind of chairman most clubs dream of. Up to back his management, up to back his players, open with the fans etc.
Even if we do go down I hope he is properly in this for the long term because if we do we need to lick our wounds, offload deadwood, stick with Harry, if he will stay and create a younger team with a few wise heads that will properly gel and want to play for the shirt.
