New Senedd initiative on 17:56 - Dec 20 with 1105 views | JACKMANANDBOY | A few years ago in private industry we were given general guidance to look at fair representation from the pool ' we were fishing in ' So at entry level jobs you would get a report to say that 90 percent of your locality was White British, 51 percent female etc. etc. Where we had large numbers of staff you could pick up on any potential recruiting bias, obviously in small numbers of specialist roles you can expect some variation. I thinks it's fair to have an aspiration to have a workforce that reflects the community you serve, how you get there requires a bit of time and skill. For example, the Senedd should start by looking at the educational outcomes for all groups, does everyone have an even chance of gaining employment?

The people who get offered the jobs should get that offer on the basis of suitabiliity, not the colour of their skin. By starting this "initiative" they are telling any white Welsh person that sorry but you may be the best person for the job but we have to employ a non white person. How will that go down, specially amongst those already antagonistic to immigrants or ethnic minorities in general? The best person for the job should be offered the job regardless of colour, religiion, sexual orientation or gender.

I think that's fair and you should have the data to understand how your organisation matches up to your catchment area to check for any potential bias. Even then you would have to start at organisations of 50 or more if 94 percent comes from one group in your catchment area.

Ii is going to be even harder because the Senedd prefer, I could say insist, on Welsh speaking employees.

There can and will be circumstances where certain posts are advertised for Welsh language speakers only, it will be rare but it will take place. Examples could include recruiting a Welsh speaker to deal with incoming phone calls in Welsh thereby ensuring the public body satisfies the legislative requirement to provide a service through the medium of Welsh. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

I can tell you that they interview and an inferior Welsh speaking candidate gets the job. A friend of my daughter is a PA in the Senedd.

It already happens in Wales. In many local authorities, particularly North Wales, the best candidate is often not appointed if they can't speak Welsh.

That'll be handy when the need arises to use Welsh as the primary language when recording pre-recorded messages when phoning your doctor .

Linguistic ability is a skill. It is generally considered better to be ABLE to speak more languages. This is valid because everyone in Wales is given the opportunity to learn Welsh at a young age when it is so much easier to learn. Wales has been run by Welsh speakers for most of the recent years.

England has been run by English speakers, sow what? Mind you, look at the state our country is in, maybe we'd be better with German or French speakers.

The sign was put there by brown nose welsh britnat Tories, as we know it was never the name of the bridge. It’s part of a calculated culture war. England projects its power by promoting Britain from a centralised London power base. Too afraid to have an Investiture for that William though, they know it will be a PR disaster. Read it can only go ahead at Cardiff Castle after the events 1969. It will be the recruiting sergeant for YesCymru/Indy, and they know it. Time to scrap the charade and the Royal family all together. Apart from that Harry, you would want a beer with any of them.

Sadiq Khan Is of Asian heritage. It is a fact. I do not walk on egg shells when talking about Asians. Why should I? The big English cities have big Asian communities. Some of my h neighbours are Asian. I speak Turkish myself to a decent level and lived in Asia for 7 years. I tell you what racism is, and racist chants are sung by Swansea fans home and away. It is an embarrassment to me. West Welsh people do not understand racism because it confuses them. They even get nervous saying Asian.
