So sad.... and the phrases Legend and National Treasure seem to embrace many.... but she was someone that truly was.
Fantastic actress and by all accounts a lovely person.
God rest her soul

89 was a good stay on this rock. A proper legend of the screen. RIP

She was a wonderful actress and will be missed. One who had connection with most generations over the years. Quite something.

Her son, Toby Stephens has been great in some of his parts.

I don't like to pester famous people, we just it was lovely to meet her.

Apparently didn't like the Potter or Downton roles as she didn't have to act much, just played herself which irritated her. A class act.

I first saw her in the 1969 film, The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie. I was mesmerised. An extraordinary talent and a wonderful human being.

I fondly remember her as Betsy Trotwood in a BBC David Copperfield. Despite a rather starry cast she stood out.
