Rugby star Louis Rees-Zammit will be signing with the #Chiefs on Friday, per sources.
After working out and impressing Kansas City’s staff earlier this week, they have agreed on terms. I’m told Rees-Zammit will be playing RB/WR. pic.twitter.com/o6ftzwhC6F
Good for him. Hope he makes the grade. He’ll have Taylor Swift in his arm before you know it. He can probably run faster than Travis Kelce so no worries there😁

Can you imagine someone taking up football at 23 and almost immediately getting a contract at Man City? This doesn't speak volumes for the NFL as a sport that requires serious skill. Just the right physical attributes.
Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

I suppose the skill lies in the learning and executing of all the plays in the book at any specific time.
Good luck to the guy, hope he can make it in the NFL and put Wales on the map at the same time. That said, the BBC and Walesonline need to let things go now and focus on the things that really matter, like holding our politicians whether it’s Westminster or Cardiff Bay to account.

In fairness he wasn't just someone off the street. He was an international athlete at his peak, in a sport and position where you run with the ball in your hands.
I have nothing but respect for any young man or woman who decides to follow their dream. It could easily have gone all wrong. Another sportsman lifting the profile of Wales, well done young man.

He’s turned his back on the game he started on with the intent to make as much money as he can. Ambitious or greedy. Take your pick
The sport which ever it maybe has no loyalty to the player, another comes in or an injury and he's written off and forgotten ,he may owe loyalty to the coaches who developed him but the sport itself, no , case in point our own Liam Walsh

i'm sick of hearing about this guy. He is chasing the coin and nothing else
And why do you go to work? Just to be an asset to the management apparently, it seems like you're not concerned with earning money.
Tell me, why do pro sportsmen and women anywhere move teams? Why have Welsh rugby players quit international rugby and mved to France? Why did any oof our players want to mive to bigger clubs? Purely for the love of the sport?
Why do people do the lottery?

His contract with Gloucester saw him earn £225,000 every year, but he has now almost trebled that by signing a deal worth $900,000 (£712,000), with a 3 year contact.

Sure I read somewhere that NFL teams sign loads of players to this type of contract but almost none of them ever last the full duration. The guaranteed money is the important part.
He's got a better chance than a lot of undrafted players because of the empasis being put on the IPP scheme, but the odds of him ever being more than a bit part player are still extremely low.

That’s true.
The huge contract figures that are chucked about mean nothing unless a player actually gets on the field.
A player can have a 100m contract but will get nothing of the sort without game time.

"Louis Rees-Zammit has been released by the Kansas City Chiefs during the team’s roster cutdowns ahead of the new NFL season, with the former Wales wing now waiting to see if he will be signed to the team’s practice squad.
NFL teams had to reduce their rosters from 90 players to 53 by 9pm BST on Tuesday, with Rees-Zammit not retained as part of the Chiefs’ final 53-player group, as expected given he was one of the fourth-choice running backs.
The 23-year-old, who switched to American football in January, was signed by the Chiefs earlier this year on a three-year deal after participating in the NFL’s international player pathway.
Only seven months on from first picking up the sport, Rees-Zammit featured during pre-season as a running back and kick returner while also taking kick-offs. He was praised by Chiefs head coach Andy Reid as “a heck of an athlete” who required more time to familiarise himself with the sport.
Following his release, Rees-Zammit can now be signed by any of the other 31 NFL franchises. The most likely outcome is that he will clear waivers and be re-signed to the Chiefs’ 17-player practice squad, from which he can be called up to the main roster at any time while also continuing to work on his game with the club. Confirmation of whether he has made the Chiefs’ practice squad is expected later this week.
The Chiefs currently have another player on their roster with an international exemption spot, meaning that player does not count towards the final 53-player roster. That designation belongs to Chukwuebuka Godrick, the Nigerian offensive lineman in his second year with the Chiefs, who was released and then signed to the practice squad last August, but is currently on the main roster.
The NFL announced earlier this year that franchises can now have 17 players on their practice squad if one of those players is granted an international exemption spot. That could be good news for Rees-Zammit even if he does not end up with the Chiefs, with other franchises more willing to take a risk on an international player given they will not count towards their final roster numbers."
