Seems England will get a little back from the £9 billion annual subsidy to Wales and the Senedd I guess if the Senedd charges over and about the normal abstraction fees for water then their subsidy could be reduced by a corresponding amount. It is part the benefits of being part of the United Kingdom. London gets some water, which would otherwise just overflow the dams into the Severn, Wye and Dee. Wales gets subsidies from UK taxpayers. Win win all round.

I know how it would work if the West tried this scam with extracting Arab oil.

Has the extraction of our coal wealth taught you nothing ?

Fair market rate for water would help Wales enormously, why should we not get paid fairly for it ?
Shirley you can see the point ?

Wales must be paid for the water, fair market rate - or we sell it elsewhere.

Any subsidy situation in Wales has been created by uk government actions - not the welsh people.
John has schooled you on this previously.

Wales needs no handouts, wales needs control of its own future.

UK general government gross debt was £2,436.7 billion at the end of Quarter 2 (Apr to June) 2022, equivalent to 101.9% of gross domestic product (GDP). Put simply Wales cannot afford to stay in uk.

You still do not understand basic science. Once the dams are full, if Wales cuts of water supplies, the dams simply overflow into the Rivers Severn, Wye and the Dee all of which run through England where they could easily pump the water out for free with Wales loosing the money the water companies pay for abstraction fees. Wales cannot sell the Water elsewhere.

It is part of the benefits of being in an United Kingdom some resources are transferred around the UK, Wales gets most of its gas from either the North Sea or from Norway via pipelines that run from Norway to England. Yes Wales could charge more for Water but England could charge more for gas it supplies to Wales.

Clearly with the high £9 billion annual subsidy Wales receives from the UK taxpayers Wales greatly benefits from being part of the UK which of course is why support for Welsh independence continues to fall and is now around 20%.

You continuing with your silly ideas and divisive nonsense will not change this.

Cymru has been amongst the very poorest parts of the uk for as long as anyone can remember.
The current uk model has failed wales.

We dont need hand outs, we need control of our own affairs like any other nation.
We need a fair price for welsh water.
Thats just common sense.

Cymru continually elects Socialist representatives. Cymru currently has a Socialist Government. People continally wonder why Wales underachieves economically.

It's not really that complicated.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

I am anti colonies that is why I and most of the country voted to leave the undemocratic EU in which the UK was a colony.

Where Wales and Scotland are part of the Democratic United Kingdom with equal rights. Why would Wales want to become a colony of the EU.

I see you did not answer my previous point. Ireland has some of the poorest parts of the EU with 36% of the population having a household income of less than €15,000. Ireland is 30th out of the leading 32 country in the OECD for financial inequality.

I do not talk the language of "SUBSIDY". It is actually pretty meaningless unless Wales is independent.

The matter is political economic and geographical. Before Covid in the UK all regions outside south east England were "subsidised" by south east England including London. People only talk about regional subsidies for the Celtic fringe not North east or North West England.

Wales and areas in the north have rural communities and farming which to not generate big returns. The big returns are in banking insurance real estate defence etc. All these big HQ are in the south east. Wales has excess of food, energy water and maybe steel. These are all essentials but under priced by international competition.

London would have 'fixed' the rules that the Sennedd cannot control water or energy and therefore not charge the free market price.

You are right in a way of a country working in harmony for its mutual benefit. You should however drop the word 'subsidy'.

The £500 billion banking bail out was a public subsidy for London bankers who kept their bonus payments which they could not afford. It went in London pockets and in particular the London property market.

Wales only produces about 20% of the food eaten in Wales . It is no where self sufficient in food. The UK.as a whole produces 60% of it own food.

You are viewing things in the wrong way. Wales is part of a system that serves the needs of our clients the great British public. I hardly eat lamb these days but this is a Welsh specialisation.

It is like a football team. You need the flash number 9 Piroe (banking and insurance) and also the sturdy defender Cabango (farming). Both fit into the system. Piroe gets paid more than Cabango but does not subsidise Cabango. They are both working parts of the economic system. They have different jobs.

Well blooming heck, I agree with you!

The real issue for me is that we have allowed the banking sector to become so powerful across the world. The rich control banking so the rich control governments. As a result the economy is unbalanced.
Farming should be a much more important sector than it is, it should be supported and encouraged, given priority so that we can produce much more of our own food and export more too.
Instead we bend over backwards for the rich and continue to screw farmers over until very many of them are walking away.

Tell your hero Drakeford to stop buying up good agricultural land to plant trees and have a joined up agricultural policy which encourages farmers to stay in the industry instead of providing financial incentives to leave and then maybe, just maybe you could be right

Yes, out on Fairwood common, I was his postman. Many farmers have had to diversify to survive, many farmers struggle to get family to take over because there are VERY long hours of VERY hard work for VERY LITTLE reward.

Farmers are giving up, selling their land and the Senedd is busy buying good agricultural land to plant trees.

Maybe we can all eat leaves?

Lots of farmers are quite well off, but not all are and you’d be surprised how much poverty there is in the rural areas. Wages can be low, energy costs can be very high as people have to rely on oil or LPG, transportation costs are high because people have to travel to access services, there hardly any public transport and fuel costs have a huge impact on people.

I was talking to a farmer the other day, he is getting more for his produce now, but by the time things like fertiliser and electricity costs (for his milking parlour) are factored in he’s actually worse off.

This is the correct answer.

They quite liked the idea of Brexit as well, not sure putting up barriers to trade will help people , you know, selling things. Plus tbe disaster of the idiot Truss NZ deal.
Like the fishermen …..lied to and cheated.
But they were warned loud and clear.
