Weather's getting me down now. We were promised vineyards, sunflowers, siestas, the lot. I even had to turn the heating on last night - in July! And don't tell me it's all explained by the "man-made climate change" theory, because it bloody well isn't. The mad greenies told us 20 years ago we'd be frying by now, and they were WRONG. So how come we actually have a Government department of "Energy and CLIMATE CHANGE"? Has there ever before been a government department based on a complete myth - like the department for slaying dragons and unicorns, for example?

No, actually, this stuff has been a passion - well, personal crusade - for years. I watch and read everything I can on it. It worries that attitudes have been swayed so much by CC/GW deniers (often with vested interests) and certain media organisations peddling their dogma.

That is a model for the sun's effect. It is not a model for the lack of human effect. These two things are not inclusive. As I said before, give me one single link as to how the climate would change without human interference.
Here you go, Figure 16 shows it, it's the blue line:

The difference is that we are talking about 97% of a large group of subject experts saying it. Surely the views of the dwindling 3% are more likely to be fairy tales? Occam's Razor, anyone?
Even the Global Climate Coalition, one of the most influential CC/GW deniers (funded by big hitters including Exxon-Mobil, Amoco, Chevron, American Petroleum Institute, Shell, Texaco, U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Chrysler, General Motors, Ford, and the American Forest, Chelsea FC Holdings and Paper Association) disbanded in 2001.

You know what really pisses me off is being termed a "denier".I remember some unbelievable w*nker from the Green Party pushing for legislation that would make Climate Change Denial punishable by prison.
Anyway,I've seen enough of the current human species to conclude that I don't give a flying f*ck.I'll actually applaud when that meteorite comes ploughing through the clouds 'an all.You can stick your ozone up yer arse.

I feel sorry for you R from Afar you are trying to reason and educate people who are more obssessed with their paranoid theories of a 'left wing political agenda' than the truth. (when of course wealthy oil companies have far more money to bankroll their agenda, another fact conveniently ignored)
The rise in global warming skepticism has got nothing to do with the facts it's do with people not wanting to accpet any kind of environmental influence on government policy. It's rankles with their natural politcal outlook that's all.
Through my work i've has spent a lot of time meeting and talking to the most respected climate scientists in the world and they all confirm the truth of climate change.
But no people like Loftboy know better.
The sad thing even if you didn't have an opinion and took a gamble on one side or the other you only safely be able to chose one if you cared about the future of the planet...
If the skeptics are wrong we are all screwed. If the believers in climate change are wrong well... we'd all still be fine.
I'm interested - if you don't believe in global warming how far does your disinterest extend? For instance do you think it's a problem that we are chopping down the Amazon rainforest or does that not matter too?
ps the ice above the water thing is total rubbish. A large percentage of ice at the poles is below the water level. More misinformation.
If we could somehow channel the wasted energy emitted by non budging, non scientist, pig headed QPR fans, (myself included) we could power the floodlights of the olympic stadium long enough for coca cola to gather the email addresses of all the spectators present through the medium of skinny uninterested dancers wearing red and white

I'm glad you think that a large percentage of ice at the poles is under water as ice, as I'm sure you are aware, is less dense than water so when it melts it will take up less space and cause sea levels to stay the same. As stated elsewhere it's the ice on land that's more of an issue.
"It's rankles with their natural politcal outlook that's all." I think Clive and HTID have quite opposite political opinions to me, so that's not necessarily true. Also you'll notice that none of us "deniers" state the climate is not changing only than it's more natural than we're lead to believe.
I think recycling, efficiency and preventing excessive deforestation are all good causes in their own right because they all have clear logical advantages. These ideas on their own are fine but to scaremonger people into complying with them with "mad max with snakes" (brilliant summation whoever that was btw) stories of woe based on little or no evidence is wrong.

I would like to add a personal observation and Im not necessarily saying any on here are guilty of it ..but.... Many man made climate change skeptics were climate change skeptics previously..
Now there is proof of climate change they have hopped into the next boat of denial

"Ignorance is not bliss, it's dangerous". Deborah Ross.
The whole point is that there is a huge weight of evidence. Around 97% of climate scientists is a lot of evidence. Governments are onboard too, with Australia and Mexico most recently taking concrete action. Even NASA is.

Wasn't Deborah Ross in the Supremes? "Baby Love" wasn't that one of theirs?
A fairly simple experimental proof exists to show how more CO2 increases the greenhouse effect; add CO2 or methane and increase the greenhouse effect. The science which supports climate change is well established, and really shouldn't be contentious.
A lot of right wingers who dislike the idea that anthropogenic climate change exists actually find it distasteful because of how they perceive government policies in response to climate change. Well, let me reassure you, 2010 was another record year for CO2 emissions, so whatever governments may be doing, however much of your money they might be spending on conferences and policy papers, they are actually doing sweet FA to stop the problem.
Life on Earth, all life on Earth affects Earth's climate; changes in the Earth's climate are perfectly normal. Now, let's look at an Earth on which one massively dominant species releases huge amounts of CO2 in a very short time. I fail to see how it can be contentious that this will have a dramatic affect. Add to that the now well understood impact of positive feedback on Earth's climate change, and it is evident how a dominant species, in this case humanity, can cause very significant climate change in, geologically speaking, next to no time.
Anyway, as things stand, at the very least the application of the precautionary principle would suggest that we need to act quite quickly if we are not going to see an end to the climatic conditions which have permitted the existence of civilisation and a human population of many billions.
It is my opinion that capitalism is incapable of solving the ecological (and social) crisis of its own making, this is because profit margins tomorrow are more important than if the poor and the powerless live or die. That's not hysteria, that's a fact which can well be historically verified. So, as a species we are in deep sh*t because there is a great deal to change and very little time. To be perfectly frank, I think it's probably too late to avoid the level of climate change (2+C warming globally) which will leave our kids and their kids in severe bother. C'est la vie; as you right wing wags like to remind us, it's all perfectly natural...... except for the fact that in theory we are the first species in the history of the Earth which might be able to do something about our impact on the climate.
Righto, well I'll leave you lads and lasses with two little morsels from today's bag of liberal bo**ocks (that's The Guardian of course) - not my politics, but something to read at coffee time.
Yeah there is sweet fck all been done about climate change, with little chance of that changing whilst capitalism continues on its merry little course. As such, people saying that climate change is used to swindles taxes are completely right of course.

EXactly none of them are doing anything about glabal wartming/climate change or whatever else they merely use it as a way of justifying higher tax they can piss up the wall elsewhere.
