I would however highly recommend R. Crumbs illustrated genesis.

Jesus on 15:00 - Dec 27 by phact0rri | From what we know of actual history, and roman records-- and using assumption as a guide, he could have been executed as part of the christian scape goating to calm the revolting public during the fires of Rome. Also not sure about this well documented business. the only documentation we have outside of the bible, is due to the aforementioned execution. Of course I'm no expert on roman history, if someone knows what other historical documents he could be in, outside of the bible please let us know. |

Of course he did. You have to admit it's a pretty impressive feat for someone who was 600 year old at the time.

Jesus on 09:42 - Dec 26 by Jackfath | If he did exist, why did people make up, and still believe his magical abilities? I've so many questions and very few answers on this topic which shows a distinct lack of belief and ignorance. Do we have any strong believers here willing to debate this in the way Jesus would have wanted us to? |
There are no Christian believers going to come on here for a theological debate Fath,I can assure you.

I had never heard of him before, and might be some good study material. but from what I've seen he has three mentions of him. Something about Jesus brother James being stoned, John the baptists execution and Jesus Crucifixion. The latter of the three does appear sort of suspect due to the dialect use and it reads vastly different than anything else he'd written... And even given this were up to three very vague mentions and one suspect account of his crucifixiion by the romans. And for me I'm not sure how much I can call this "well documented". There are documents, and I do believe that a man called Jesus existed. I just don't know if I 'd say he is well documented outside of the holy bible.

I mentioned Tacitus which is where were I entered this discussion as I'd read bits and bobs from him, and knew his words on Jesus being supposedlt executed in 61AD. as it is all quite interesting. Talmud too I've researched for a novel I'm working on and this is more of a hinted at possible Yeshu being a christ figure. Though its not exactly crystal clear, and honestly Yeshu reads more like jewish sorceror (not unlike Myrddin Wyllt we have here) and I can see how the things jesus did can be looked at and draw comparisons. I wish I had time to research all of this more fully. Specifically the difference in times in which Jesus Christ may have walked the earth (Plane shifter maybe?) I'm a writer so I love my research. But from a quick look through your other names: Pliny the younger I see talked about Christian religion. a letter in 112 AD asking how to deal with the rampant problem of this new fangled religion taking shape. Lucian- I think out of all the jesus stuff is the hardest to see. as far as I know he made a single statement in like 170AD where he essentially talked about christ in a second hand account he got from some christians who told him how cool the 'cult leader' was. So again, I'm standing on my "not well documented". And to be clear I'm not taking the mick out of christians, and I think faith in christ is much more of a strength for your lot if he is maybe myth maybe legend maybe real.

Well Josephus' specialist subject was the History of the Jewish people. But since you appear to dismiss him let me ask you this; which source would in your opinion be credible on that subject?

The issue with Josephus is that the bits about the crucifixion seem to be debatable as coming from him. The other two parts are (The jesus brother and John the baptist) seem fine enough *shrugs* Also from what I was reading Josephus seemed to turn his back on the jewish people and change sides for the romans? So there's that too... But for me I don't know if I've really found a lot of credible sources for the life of Jesus Christ. I think that he lived at some point in time, but I'd probably have to spend the time to see where I would place him personally and which accounts I found made the most sense for me. I've heard he was on some census records, and I assume if there's a few congruent records to that effect it'd probably at least give a time frame to work out when he was actually alive.

They will struggle to ban the person who is mentioned in the Quran more than anyone else. Theyd have to rewrite the whole thing.

Indeed. Mentioned in The Quran no less than 25 times as the penultimate prophet.

It is obviously entirely up to you, but as far as I am concerned it is just not sustainable to claim Jesus wasn't a historical figure. Whether he was indeed the Son of Man is a different proposition altogether. But consider this; today Boris Johnson is the bookies favourite to become the next leader of the Conservatives and quite likely Prime Minister. Imagine the reaction of future historians 500 years from now presented with just that statement and documentary evidence of the acts of BoJo. You'd be laughed out of the building. Yet that is undeniably where we are today.

JP would like to point out that this is why the site is dyeing out. A fine example of trolling. JP has reduced posting and yet finds on a rare post (the first in a while) out of the woodwork do the same personnel come. As mentioned this is why the site is becoming boring as talented posters will stay away.
