Only the book of Matthew documents the "virgin birth"
I just believe that 2000 years ago, well before x boxes, pornhub, and real ales that many people needed a leader of sorts and the more academic used to record things and it all got put together into what we know as The Bible.
Without dismissing Jesus completely you'd have to remember that anyone who was slightly more intelligent and articulate in those days would have appealed to those less brighter. Almost like modern day, we get bored with the "system", those of us who can't influence or change things always prick our years up to alternative and potentially positive new approaches.
The Gospels as we know them today were not written anywhere near contemporaneously. There is still plenty of scholarly debate about exactly when they were written, but the earliest is probably from around 60-70AD with the latest (John) significantly later.
There is now general agreement that the common ancestor is a document known as 'The sayings of Jesus' discovered as part of the cache of Gnostic texts found at Nag Hamadi in Egypt after WW II. Look for magic stuff in there, and you will not find it.
It is highly probable church schollars embelished and sexed up the earlier texts using material borrowed from existing religions like the worship of Mithras when they were editing the gospels perhaps around 150-200 AD.
But by that time the Christian church was already a substantial movement, that had spread throughout most of the known world without the benefit of heavy public relations manipulaiton of the core message of the word of god.
Belief gives people strength at the end of the day. In ancient times when the sun and the moon were deities and tribes went to war, the tribe with some sense of belief in a greater power would generally overcome the other due to having something other than themselves to fight for. It seems that 'believing' is a basic human need.
‘……. like a moth to Itchy’s flame ……’
Why do supposed intelligent people still think that the magic happened?
Perhaps dispite being intelligent proberbly not the most logical of thinkers, also maybe fear, or even not being able to take in the thought of non excistence once life ends.

Personally I’m of the opposite opinion, I couldn’t stand to just exist forever, sounds like torture to me. When I snuff it I hope that’s it, the end, Fin.
The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.
I lived with a history student in uni. Apparently Jesus is well documented and definitely existed. Apparently he was considered to be a religious leader of some sort.
I suspect the rest is guff though.
Even Atheists history experts will tell you he was real it's the Son of God bit that they don't see eye to eye on
No wonder he was crucified. All that turning water into wine and feeding the multitudes with a loaf of Hovis and a few fish would be very bad for the profit margin...
From what we know of actual history, and roman records-- and using assumption as a guide, he could have been executed as part of the christian scape goating to calm the revolting public during the fires of Rome.
Also not sure about this well documented business. the only documentation we have outside of the bible, is due to the aforementioned execution. Of course I'm no expert on roman history, if someone knows what other historical documents he could be in, outside of the bible please let us know.

I thought the fires of Rome happened long after Jesus was supposed to be around. They happened in Nero’s day, Jesus would have snuffed it long before that if he was born when Herod was alive.
Most likely he was killed because he was a charismatic upstart who inspired people and threatened the status quo and the powers that were.

Well, here in lies the confusion is that the bible, not overly great with giving dates and such, also the bible not historical record to base much on. What I'm refering to is this:
