Great write up and good to thoroughly acknowledge both sides. Like most of us I can see the value in each, but would prefer a cup run over pretty much anything else.... We also showed that with a bit more effort and application, we might have won anyway. I'm also finding this game as a stick to beat Celar with quite hilarious. Is this his first ever 90mins? He's on single figures for appearances in a new league/country, and we're using this as evidence because he didn't get much change out of - checks notes - Marc fcking Guehi... Ok cool. |
| Forum Reply | Frey’s big start, Madsen’s quiet wins, Field’s conundrum - Column at 02:08 12 Sep 2024
Sam Field is out best player without the ball and one of our worst with it, that's the conundrum, and given the position he plays, both the plus and weaknesses are amplified. Personally I appreciate the good he does and think we almost take for granted the amount of involvement he has, and despite his limitations, he always shows for the ball and will come and get it. I'd like to think that more balance and less reliance on him as a progressor will allow him to do his best work and give a platform for others. There's also going to be games - especially away from home - where he will be massive for our chances of getting a result.... He's still in my first 11 every week. I also like Ken Paal. Thanks for the write up, loved it! |

Another reason it would be helpful to know if we at least have an option on our side to make Saito permenent, so as not to create this kind of conjecture around priritising a loan player. I'm still not 100% Dembele is def ours, which would be painful based on how he's started |

Just to follow up, got a call from Gavin at the BO and he said it's a ticketmaster issue and to call directly to book your ST seat for the game. Any ST holders have until 5pm Friday. The number was 02087402613 - I just did it and got through in a couple of mins. He also said if you subscribe to the auto cup feature it'll book your seat for every cup game regardless and if you can't make it they'll just process a refund. Given their system I'm not sure I trust that 100% - but it's an option for those that want to avoid this issue for the next round |

It's reserved my ST seat for the game, but refuses to let me pay for it. I've never known a business/organisation that makes it so difficult to take my money. |

I might owe Hunter an apology when he told me Frey will get 10 goals this season and I made a Marge Simpson grumbly noise... He's come back a new man so far. |
| Forum Reply | QPR bolster midfield with Varane capture – Signing at 13:40 5 Aug 2024
Of course, but he's clearly been brought in to be our first choice striker and main goal scorer - Varane will almost certainly start in 3 midfield set ups, but Morrison, Santos, Bennie Dundee, etc are more for depth/rotation/future, it seems to me. I'd like to see us add one more player to the 'start now' group, preferably an attacker/winger, even if that means a loan [Post edited 5 Aug 13:43]

Whilst this could be a decent, if not perfect answer to the kind of CM profile were lacking right now, this is still a great example of future planning. We might get 1 more year out of Colback, and Field could easily be picked up next summer if he has another solid season, so a 22 year old high ceiling lad will have a year to acclimatise and learn/develop to be the next man up, whilst hopefully adding something different. Celar aside, we seem to have made signings this year with exactly that in mind. Good enough for depth and to start without being replied upon, but with an eye on replacing current starters and being the pillars of the squad the next few years. |

If we're not getting 10m plus for chair there's just no point selling this summer, the guy is our entire attack. We'd need to have 2 individual contributers lined up that can hit the ground running for it to make any sense this season. I know financial stuff is important, and I wouldn't suggest we turn down anything too good to reject or spend beyond our means, but we also need to take the opportunity to give Marti the best squad possible while he's here, because he won't be for long and managers like him don't turn up at QPR often. |
| Forum Reply | WTF is a head of methodology? at 13:25 22 Jul 2024
Absolutely. It always causes confusion with these kind of ambiguous titles, but from the description it seems his role will be to make sure every area remains aligned to the longer term vision - whether that be play style, culture, progression, etc. If the training ground is a physical representation of bringing players and staff together, staff like this will be in charge of the theory. |
| Forum Reply | Jimmy Dunne at 12:45 19 Jul 2024
Small sample size, but he played RCB in a three for some of the pre season and I think on occasion we'll see that system - either to start or in-game - especially as the new lad looks more of an attacking wing back / winger. Ultimately he's an option at RB, CB or RCB - but I don't think he will be in our strongest 11 atm if we're playing a back 4. Cannon is more of a ? for me - I see him being similar to Dunne in style but behind him in the pecking order. Maybe with Dunne being in his last year, we are holding Cannon for security. Interesting to see how we juggle our options on that side. |

Third kits are bullshit anyway. |
| Forum Reply | Third kit... at 12:30 19 Jul 2024
I'm generally the same, but I think our kit is fairly iconic and a big part of our identity in comparison to some other clubs - so am never a fan of a new kit that doesn't have some link to our identity, or just looks like another teams kit (in this case Wolves). Marketing shite like "A unique gold color for qpr's third jersey embodies the club’s ambition" - apart from not even making sense - also doesn't feel very QPR to me. |
| Forum Reply | Third kit... at 12:20 19 Jul 2024
Awful and nothing at all to do with QPR - I'm sure it will sell out anyway. |

The wording comment is absolutely fair, but if we're considering sensationalism, let's also not downplay it to the point that we ignore what has been consistently reported. |
| Forum Reply | Ilias Chair at 18:49 17 Jul 2024
I think I'm consoling myself with this view, as it seems so out of character and we know he's not the kind of person/player to be away drinking, on lads trips or giving it large anywhere - he spends the off season with his family and that's who he was with at the time. That said, I do lean a little into Robith's POV... People are right to say we were not there, and the mitigating circumstances might not be clear, but he was found guilty of smashing a rock into another mans head and fracturing his skull, a working man, also there with his family by all accounts. Maybe in time there will be detail included that show self defence or protection of his family, but that didn't seem to reflect in the initial court decision or this most recent result. I'm not getting the pitchforks out, but I can't say my view of him isn't a little tainted by the whole incident. |

This part is the biggest plus point for Southgate, and for me it's the overriding aspect of his legacy, as/when he steps down. To build and maintain the squad connection, that desire from the players to want to be part of this version of England, and the love and support from the fans as a collective rather than just their club players in a different shirt, has changed so much for the better. In the context of his time as England manager, to have built up that culture and used it to take us to latter stages of major tournaments, he's up there as one of the best of all time - certainly in the last 30 years. I don't think that negates any criticism of his preferred style, set up or way of playing though - especially in this tournament, and when it comes to actually winning a trophy. I think the game and his squad have outpaced him, and his tactics and game-management have held us back more than it's propelled us, but tournaments are all about winning and if he does that Sunday, he will go down as one of the all-time greats. Unquestionably. |
